What is a "stroke"?

Post by SecretSwitch »

Apologies if this is a basic question that has been answered several times -- I searched the forum but did not turn anything up.

When a tease instructs you to stroke a certain number of times, or times per second, or along with a metronome, what constitutes a single "stroke"? Is it only an upstroke or downstroke, or is it an upstroke and downstroke combined?

I guess it makes the most sense for each stroke to include both an upstroke and a downstroke . . . but if that's the case, then I really need to work on my stamina.

Thanks for your help!

I think that's something that's never clearly been defined. For me I count it as an upstroke and a downstroke, but I think everyone is different. Unless the tease tells you exactly how to do it... just do it your own way.

I was wondering the same thing the other day as I was struggling like crazy to follow a metronome...

I tend to do it the same way as texturedshroom as well. Personally I find counting one stroke as up and down challenging, but one stroke up, one down etc too easy. I try and keep it to upstroke and downstroke combined as one beat but sometimes have to slow it down.

I am also quite confused about this. But I agree that unless the tease tells you what to do, do it your own way.

Actually there are several different kinds of stroking.
A 'typical' stroke is having one full hand wrapped and sliding it up and down once.

However there are things called "worship strokes"
which is as far as I can tell a full up from base all the way past tip and down again from tip to base
usually done with a firm grip, or in a manner which is 'loving' and 'worshipful' Bit vague I know but that's really the definition.

ive always counted them as 1 stroke for up, 1 stroke for down.
just do it however you like...or however you think your mistress/master would like

When I do a metronome tease, for me a "stroke" is a downstroke and an up stroke. However, as has been previously posted, everyone is different. If the tease doesn't tell you how to do it, do it your own way.

For me one motion up and one motion down constitutes a "stroke". I prefer using a metronome. When doing teases that instruct you to stroke once a second, twice a second, etc... I usually always use a metronome set a 60bpm, 120bpm, etc...

I haven't been here in a while, but its a relief to come back and find that there are others who have been puzzled by this (one would have thought) simple term!

I think I have always subconsciously adjusted my understanding (from up and down = 1 to up =1 down =1) depending on how tricky it was? But I imagine, like Aria said, what goes for sex probably goes for masturbation also. This may mean I have some bad stroking karma to rid myself of...
