Reminds me of all the silly laws Britain used to have back in the day, such as carriages in London being lawfully required to have a bale of hay and oats at all times. Sounds weird, but it certainly happened.

I think I'm one of the luckier people on that boat. I had actually talked with my mother and her husband about this policy, explaining by thoughts on it, and stressing that I think it's silly. They don't know my tastes, but I've admitted in the past that I do look up adulterated content to them, and that I don't feel bad about telling them. In fact for me, it was like a giant weight off my shoulders.

But still, this doesn't mean that anyone who feels in a pinch needs to confess to their parents, as you said, it's awkward, not only that, but it could possibly affect their childhood, and hamper their experience on the Internet.

Well guys, if you notice my limited appearance turn to zero at the turn of the New Year, you'll know why

I have quite strong feelings on this subject.

In reality this filter is being dressed up as a porn filter, however in reality it is more about censorship of the internet not just porn. It is covering any adult material.

This has wide ranging impacts, from stopping access to support forums to stopping medical research (how many of us look up embarrassing ailments prior to going to the doctor??)

It is about censorship and control, who is to say what content is desirable?

Anyways before I ramble too much, I feel it appropriate to post the UK Gov Epetition as this is a major concern to all our liberties.

and here is details of a blog that has a good overview on it.

(I am in no way affiliated to either of these links)

This is a going to be bad for me because I am still a student and I highly doubt my university will remove the filter. But it isn't just about access to porn, the fact of the matter is that neither party had this in their manifesto and have no mandate to implement this. What makes matters worse is that when you vote for a party with liberal in the title you expect liberal policies and not authoritarian ones like this. The Conservatives aren't much better either, Cameron promised that he would see an end to the nanny state and yet he is now expanding it.

I am strongly against censorship, how long until you can't access websites that are critical of the government? How long until you can't access the UKIP website? or webpages critical of the EU?
