Dishwasher detergent should be safe, I have used it for cleaning oily parts etc in the past, it does leave the skin a little dry though. But as you have said it isn't designed for washing skin, or being in contact with it even. However and alternative could be plain washing up liquid that you would use in a sink to clean the dishes. I often use ordinary washing up liquid as a hand cleaner, if for example I have grease or oil on my hands, it is designed to shift grease and the like, and also tested to be in contact with skin. It works really well, and I have never had any ill effects from it. So it may be an alternative that will be a good compromise for you both.

I made some new ice sounds this weekend, and verified that they can be handled and won't immediately melt on contact with my fingers. I took some rubber tubing (both 3/16" and 1/4" inner diameter, just to experiment) and some tube clamps. These were all boiled for a few minutes to sterilize them, and allowed to cool. Using gloved hands, I then clamped the ends of the tubes shut and transferred them to the freezer.

When they were frozen, I took one out and ran it under warm tap water for a second to dislodge the ice from the tube. Removing a tube clamp from one end, the ice can then be extruded like toothpaste. (If, I suppose, your toothpaste is frozen. Which sounds like a bad idea, so perhaps never mind the toothpaste metaphor.)

Here's what the ice looks like, partially extruded from the tubing in which it was frozen. I put a clothespin next to it for scale, because... umm... I just happened to have a few clothespins lying around... for some reason... I forget exactly why right now.



It looks like I can make any length from very short one-inch sounds up to maybe six-inch. The easiest to handle is a six-inch piece of tubing, from which a short 2" sound could be extruded and broken off.

Does this look like something you can approve, Miss Shell?
