IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - LOGIN/ACCOUNT ISSUES

Hey folks,

So I'm moving this week and of course, everything always breaks at the worst possible time, so the chat server decided to start acting up. Then there was a provider-side network downtime a few days ago. Finally, yesterday the server decided to crash entirely and corrupt the user table.

THIS LIKELY MEANS I HAVE TO RESTORE THE DATABASE FROM BACKUP TO FIX THE USER TABLE AND THAT MAY OR MAY NOT MEAN THAT EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED SINCE MARCH 20TH WILL GET ROLLED BACK.

SO IF YOU HAVE ANY NEWLY CREATED/EDITED TEASES BACK THEM UP IF YOU CAN. AND IF YOU HAVE EPICLY LONG POSTS OR TEASES TO WRITE, HOLD OFF FOR A COUPLE DAYS PLEASE.

If your account is affected by the user table corruption, please be patient for a few days while I sort this out.

Unfortunately, my Internet is down. I called the provider before the move and they assured me I'd have uninterrupted service. I get to the new apartment, of course Internet doesn't work and then they tell me they have to upgrade the installation at the building and someone will call me back to make an appointment the next day.

I don't think I can do a database restore using the crappy Internet I have right now, also there are some things in my local network that don't work right now due to the move. All I can say is that I'm gonna try my best to get everything back to normal asap.

I just wanted to add (having talked to them both) other deleted accounts include:

Thanks, you do not need to list them, there are way too many accounts affected to fix manually (I'd estimate about 1000 accounts or so.) That's why I have to restore the database from backup, unfortunately, I have to wait until my Internet is fixed, there is absolutely no way I can do that from my phone.

Edit: As a fun aside, my own account was also affected - I had to recreate the record in the database just to even post this. That's why my post count has been reset.

Again, please read the initial announcement above, user accounts will be rolled back to before the crash. Other parts of the site won't be if I can help it, but no promises at this point. It's messy and it'll be messy to fix.

Just received an email from user "Mat" who said that his posts were also deleted. I checked the database and found that the posts are still there. What's happening is that the forum when displaying a thread tries to join the posts and the user information together and if the user information is missing it drops the posts.

In other words once I fix the user table all missing posts should reappear.

Do you want some rubber gloves to keep your hands clean?

I'll be using some of the Internet-free downtime to clean my old apartment, so I'll have my fair share of those.

I also got a quick update for you: It's looking like they may be able to send a technician tomorrow to connect my Internet, but they didn't want to promise anything. Otherwise my official appointment to have a technician come by is Wednesday next week.

Edit: I should mention that if it really does take until Wednesday, I'll probably try to work around the issue somehow using tethering or whatnot. But since a database restore is a tricky procedure as it is, I'd rather not risk it unless I have all my tools available and ready to go. As bad as it is, it could still get worse if the restore is botched somehow.

Ok, my Internet connection is setup hardware-wise, but apparently they still have to enable something on their end, which is supposed to happen this afternoon, then I should be online again.

Fingers crossed I'll be able to fix the user issue by tomorrow.

There are still tons of unsolved little mysteries though. For example, the CPU stalled this morning. Yes. Apparently, CPUs can stall.

But the worst is probably over and things are going to get better from here. I'm going to fix the user issue, finally fix the image loading issue and move the chat server onto new hosting. Probably all this weekend.
