Can an illustrated story be considered a tease?
What about a set of instructions accompanied by images of porn stars?
When I think of teasing I think of someone tempting someone else sexually. Basically the part of "tease and denial" which isn't denial. Some sets of instructions contain none of that, yet I don't see people objecting to them as not being webteases. Meanwhile stories which contain strong elements of teasing are often derided for not being "true" webteases.
Whether they qualify by definition as webteases or not, I happen to like well-crafted illustrated stories. From an artistic standpoint there's a lot more you can do in a story than with merely a set of instructions. So perhaps web-tease is a poor name for what I see as a unique form of art. What other art form offers the overlap between instructing the audience, storytelling, and even game-playing? I'm tempted to say anything produced using the Milovana Standard or Nyx medium for the purpose of causing arousal is a webtease.
However, I then remember things like "Fifi hypnosis" where I would have a hard time calling it a webtease even if the author intended to arouse people with that. So I'm still left asking, exactly what is a webtease anyway? Anyone have any ideas on that?
Exactly what is a webtease?
Re: Exactly what is a webtease?
This is a good question that seems to be on a lot of minds nowdays. I would agree with your operational definition that "anything produced using the Milovana Standard or Nyx medium for the purpose of causing arousal is a webtease."Vinny Vodka wrote:Can an illustrated story be considered a tease?

This reminds me of the debate over what it means to be "pornographic" or "erotic". I'm sure that there are some who get very turned on by teases on this site that leave me cold, and I've heard from others who seem upset at the teases I've written, because they don't contain explicit instructions. I say to each his or her own and agree it's in the mind of the reader.
I hope what I'm hearing from some people is just that they got excited by lots of things they found on milovana, but then when they found my teases, they were disappointed because it didn't fit what they had gotten used to or wanted.

Re: Exactly what is a webtease?
When I hover the mouse over Milo in the favorite menu....it actually says "Free Stories with sexy Pictures."
So I never really understood why folks get upset when that's what they find.
I suppose for some, they don't have RL D/s relationships and are looking for the tease to take the place of the Dom/Domme. Enter the realm of the explicit instruction type. As we've seen, it works to some varying degrees.
Personally, I don't really like the ones WITHOUT a story behind them. Exercise my mind, not just my wrist.
Heres an example:
The tease says: Stroke X number of times! Now!
In my head, I'm saying: Um....why? Simply because the girl is hot? Simply because she thinks she's in charge? Why does she think that anyway? I supposedly just met this woman...why would I ever do that just because she said so?...etc. etc. etc.
See the problem? I'm looking for the story. The reason I'd be doing these things, or at least even considering doing these things. "She's hot!" is nowhere near a good enough reason for me. I've never seen a woman THAT hot. Never will. Personally, I get so wrapped up with the questions and reasoning in my head that I'm completely turned OFF by the tease, but...and here's the thing: That's ME. Not everyone thinks like me. (It'd be a pretty crazy world if they did.
)
Anyway, I think, like any other art form...it's a matter of taste. If you just want instructions, we have those. If you just want stories, we have those. If you want a blend of both, we have those too. They all work for different folks, looking for different things at different times. I don't see any reason why we wouldn't call any of them a "real" webtease.

Re: Exactly what is a webtease?
I've heard it a million times and said it as many if not more....
"You cannot please everyone"
This site is a mix of many kinks and fetishes....if you like just stroking and no interaction there's a tease for you, if you want to feel like the woman/dom is talking to you there is a tease for you, if you want anal, cbt, panties, spanking, whatever kink or fetish I can almost bet there is a tease for you.
What I personally like varies, there are days I just want to stroke and stroke and days that I may want a little cbt, but being a writer I love the storyline......as much as I like just stroking I can do that with any porn. But if I want to feel like a woman is telling me to stroke (or whatever) then it feels a little more "real".
But not pleasing everyone is what makes us individuals not robots per say......
Everyone have fun and be safe

Re: Exactly what is a webtease?
Ah yes Alison, the Urge author reallly has a way of making things clear Hmm?
This is a somewhat philispophical question.
I do want more than one page teases
(Althought htere are a few funny ones)
So content does seem to play a part
Also the model.
Is it a tease if every other picture is a different woman?
Genreally more people say- Bad tease- when multiple model's are used
and then there are the grammer spelling police
who can seem to enjoy a tease with very bad grammer.
One of my favorite teases was what NOT to do in a webtease
(Not even sure it's still on the site though)
So I think the answer saddly is: anything that is on Milovana
Just like art is anything on display at a gallery
even if it is a statue made out of shit of the virgin Mary.
Now talk about an up roar about what is art.

Re: Exactly what is a webtease?
A Webtease is more than a just a story with pictures.
The characteristic elements for me are:
- The reader is part of the sorry (addresses by "you")
- The reader is actually involved, not only his virtual identity. (Some of the action is carried out by the reader) That is really a particular property of webteases. Literature and even most computer games don't do that.
- It's interactive to some degree.
- Some surrounding plot.
So a webtease isn't just a list of teasing instructions or a story, but a teasing scenario that involves the reader.
Webteases can be strong on different properties, but the best usually combine a sophisticated plot with surprising instructions.
I wouldn't consider Webteases that don't have any plot (not even something like "Hi, I'm nurse Jacky. You're here for your checkup?") or stories without any instructions really to be Webteases. It's still fine to publish this stuff here, but they don't really fit into that special genre.

Re: Exactly what is a webtease?
I actually agree it's better when the reader is addressed directly. The Maria Pavlova Series was a writing experiment to see if a technique that was more narrative could work well, and perhaps it's not as effective as my former technique of just making "you" the main character. But I thought it would be better for this story, as I wanted to get inside the woman character's (Maria Pavlova's) mind. I guess a lot of what I'm hearing is that the experiment isn't completely successful. But I've learned some things, and I kind of like the result, so consider it expanding the boundaries of the art form...dtspam wrote:A Webtease is more than a just a story with pictures.

Re: Exactly what is a webtease?
I think dtspam's comments have been very helpful to me, and I'm revising the Maria Pavlova series again to use "you" more often. I agree this does make the teases more involving. Part 1 is already revised as of this writing, and I hope to get to the rest of them later.
Thanks to dtspam
and the rest of you for being patient with me and for your feedback, which is really helping, even if it takes a while to get through to me!
Thanks to dtspam
Re: Exactly what is a webtease?
I have now revised part 2 of the Maria Pavlova series to apply this improvement.cactusman wrote:I think dtspam's comments have been very helpful to me, and I'm revising the Maria Pavlova series again to use "you" more often.
