what did you tie yourself up with,
Have you used it before.
you could be allergic.
Perhaps you need to be clean and loose down there
It may just be from three days of camping
As that kind of life is not always conducive to highest levels of hygiene.

It was probably caused by restricting blood flow to your genitals. If it gets worse you should go see a doctor immediately, and be more careful next time. If it was very red you may have had some minor internal bleeding.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Hey there, I'm a Pharmacist.
From your description, it actually sounds fungal. It's common, also known as jock itch. Essentially it is athletes foot on the groin. The shoelace may have triggered a flare in the itch. Getting fungal infections isn't completely caused by lack of hygiene, it sometimes just happens and I can elaborate why if you really want to know.
It can affect the scrotum, the penis and the surrounding area. Hop to the pharmacy and get an antifungal gel. The gel is a little better than the creams in the genital area. I'd recommend to apply Lamisil(terbinafine) once a night before bedtime. It should get markedly better within the first few days, but use it for 7 to 10 to complete clear it out.
Also, forget using soap down there too, unless it's some sort of moisturizing soap. That makes things worst by drying it all out.
