There's going to be people who do shitty things, there always has been. 300 years ago it might have been pirates stealing one's goods. Now it's "hackers" stealing one's info. Breaking into a virtual storage service and taking the info inside is wrong, but invariably people will do what is wrong. Better security will help, but the real answer is this: if you're the kind of person who would have something to lose if compromising pictures of you were seen by the public, don't take compromising pictures of yourself. Perhaps even further than that; if you're ignorant of how technology works, educate yourself. Realize that any device connected to the internet can be accessed by someone with means. If you really want to take naked pictures of yourself, keep them on an offline machine. These are simple concepts.

I don't think people should have their private info accessed any more than I think someone should be attacked by pirates. But don't go sailing your boat around in un-patrolled waters.

There will always be assholes, idiots, and miscreants on the net. Alas.

As a security/privacy technologist, I've been thinking about this issue, but keep coming back to my initial reaction being that if you don't want this stuff on the net, don't take photos and/or store it on the net. Granted, it's a PITA and runs contrary to how people are supposed to act/socialize/behave these days, but it makes it much more difficult to be victimized if there's nothing to victimize you with. In my case, all my friends/partners/sigoths over the years have respected (and agreed with) my desire to leave the camera/phones out of the bedroom and/or any 'awkward' situations. But then again, they're in the security/privacy/tech space, too, so maybe it's a case of great minds thinking alike. IMHO this is the easiest solution to implement and deal with, even if it runs contrary to the 'norm' of society and/or makes sharing social information (eg, pictures) a bit more cumbersome.

However, there's also the case to be made that by using these services (or the phone, home internet, car, walking around town, etc) you ACCEPT THE RISK of being hacked, cracked, tapped, intercepted, video'd or what-have-you, so if it happens, you shouldn't really be surprised by it. Philosophically I agree with that sentiment, but practically, I prefer not to deal with it or at least minimize my exposure to it -- hence what I said above.

Kudos to Milovana for nixing the post requesting the photos. Another win for the responsible creative kinkster community!

(BTW while I use Twitter semi-anonymously, I'm not on Facebook, Instagram, or other social media services. I just chose what technologies to use, where, when, and how.)

Completely immoral in my opinion, they were private photos not meant to be shared with the general public. I do not believe being a celebrity negates any right to privacy. No public good has ensued from these photos being leaked.
