The other day my fiance and I watched some porn just to mess around a bit. She questioned why all the guys were pulling out, jerking off and unloading on the girls face in the end. I never really got that either. Even when I was hormone crazed teenager looking for any porn I could get my hands on it seemed odd. From the looks of it very little has changed in the porn industry the past decade.

I've always thought that the "money shot" was just to show the viewer that the guy was really turned on enough to cum. It's pro-forma, and a silly convention, I agree, since it makes the video even less realistic than it would be otherwise (which is saying a lot).

Well yes it's obviously to actually SHOW the cum, as some sort of "proof" or conclusion.

As dr_cunning mentions the prevalence of the money shot has to do with male domination. But the origins of the money shot stem from the "need" early producers had, of showing that the guy really had an orgasm, and that this event was very exciting and enjoyable for the girl. The way to show both was for the guy to ejaculate on the hyper-excited girl.

In addition, the act is somewhat kinky and that probably adds to the excitement of more than one viewer.

What I heard was (accurate or not, could be totally bogus or just old since I must have heard it 10+ years ago) a lot of dudes that work in the industry for a while and basically trained themselves not to cum too soon now can't cum very easily unless they do it themselves. Also you've only got one chance for the scene and you don't want to mess up the shot, so that also leads to the manual ending.

Because yes, they feel this need to show it. Hell, in too many vids it's even to the point that when a women takes a load in their mouth they have to show their mouth full for a prolonged period, swallow, then display their empty mouth like either we don't understand the concept of swallowing or that we're trying to veryify they're not pulling a fast one on us.
