Time frame for chat improvements?

                    I have only stated things from my viewpoint.

As I have been such an infrequent chat visitor of late for reasons many know of.
Therefore I cannot be counted as being in the so called "Circle of Friends" either.

Nothing wrong with a little bit critic, as long as the work the people do gets still respect from that person and banq said that at least 3-4 times now.

Thank you Oda, I had hoped that it was clear in my posts that I respected the effort being made. And was starting to question whether I had or not.

1). Communication seems to be lacking....

It has been well over a month now since the new chat became active. We have been promised untold amounts of improvements. Whilst I appreciate the amount of work going into it. The chat still is far from perfect. And not something I really enjoy using.

Maybe a weekly update on where the updates stand? On whats being working on? Something just to show people the work is being done. One of the unfortunate things about Milo is people put in incredible amount of work and tend only to here when it goes wrong...
So my advise would be to basically just calm down and stop treating each negative comment as if someone had just slapped you in the face...and instead listen to what people there are telling you they want... updates...time scales.... for the sake of a post or two or a little additional information in the down time posts?
As someone looking in, these things seem obvious to me...

Thanks for the vote of confidence Anna *smiles* I agree with your idea about more communication, like a weekly update on progress. That would show us what work was being carried out and what progress is being made.

To Banquo – I agree – I don’t think you did anything wrong. You asked questions, got consistently bashed for it, and I think you’re owed an apology. So, for what it’s worth, *I* apologize for the comments of the people I entrusted as Chat Mods, and at one time, friends.

I thank you for the sentiment Indy, but please there is no need for you to make an apology to me. I don't think we ever had much to do with each other (if anything) when you were still a member here. You seem a level headed guy and from what I can tell a true loss to the community.

It's my turn. I have been watching this thread with interest since Banquo started it.
I have not commented yet for a couple of reasons. One of those is that I did not want people saying that I was only saying what I was, because he is mine.

With that said....

I had several paragraphs typed out...but a memory surfaced, of a thread that sent Lady X away.....a thread about the "old" chat room........and that road was not pleasant and I will not travel down the same road that "she" did.
So......I am not going to comment more then this.

Just because people have differing opinions on something does not mean they turned on someone. We all have our own outlooks on things and they aren't going to align with each other all the time. Yes chat was rushed out and is rather basic, but the features that were promised are still going to be added once bugs are worked out.

The one common thing I see across this thread is that people would like more feedback on how things are progressing with chat. I can't speak for Seraph0x, but I can ask for Turtle to provide a status update of sorts. Would a weekly update be sufficient to see that there is progress being made on fixing bugs and getting to adding features? Perhaps a rough timeline of when people can expect features to be added, but people must keep in mind that this timeline will have to be very flexible given how difficult some bugs can be to track down and fix.

I don't think it would take too long for a general statement about how the progression of fixing bugs and adding features is going. It has been a while since chat was moved to its current format and people are frustrated about chat not having the features that it did. If it helps ease the frustration a bit and gives some confidence that there is work being done to fix bugs and move on to features I think it would be well worth the time it takes to give those updates.

I would be grateful to know if it will be weeks, months, or years, before we see features implemented into the new chat system. Or ultimately if we will ever see chat with more features than we have now. I await an answer from seraph or turtle on this one.

I understand that it must be frustrating to see the slow progress if you are using the chat a lot. So I'm sorry things have been dragging on.

Some background: I personally only have about 20 hours per week that I can dedicate to Milovana. The webtease section has approximately 12000 daily unique users, the chat has less than 100. For the entirety of 2011 and the early half of 2012, the chat has taken up more than 50% of the total time I invested the site.

You have to wait a few weeks for the top todos on the chat, but others have waited years for Eos and I finally want to get that out, so I'm focusing on it.

Fortunately Turtle has been helping out - he's been planning to put the login integration live on the 11th, but unfortunately didn't get it done and since then he's been too busy. He's doing this in his free time and from personal experience I can tell you that as a programmer you will very often find yourself working eight hours only to come home and work another four on the various favors you're doing for people. Sometimes you just need a break.

The bad news is it'll take a long time until the new chat has the same features as the old one. The good news is that it's much more stable, so once it's done it should be a permanent solution.

If you're looking for a response from me, then generally you need to post in the Tech Support or Support forums as those are the only forums that I check semi-regularly. For urgent matters or if I don't seem to respond after a few days, try a PM or email.

I used to very much enjoy the old chat system (when it worked.) But I find this new one boring, dour and lacking in any kind of features. I do not enjoy it.

Well, which features would you like to see the most? Improvements take time, but we can certainly switch around the order in which we do them. Start a thread in the Suggestions forum and be concise, and we'll take your thoughts into account.

Firstly, I'd like to apologize for not having had an opportunity to speak up, or provide any information or responses sooner. Unfortunately I've been extremely busy between work and having my family in town (and staying at my house) and so unable to remotely consider coming on here. I promise going forward as far as plans and progress goes, to keep everyone as up to date as possible.


To Banquo: Thank you for starting this thread. At the very least it has helped show the opinion of the everyday users, and point out a current issue I've been failing at, communication, something that will be remedied.

To Indy and Anna: Thank you for your input in the thread, I greatly respect both of you, and appreciate input.

To Shell, Oda, Les, Dream, and everyone: Thank you for the input on this thread, and trying to speak in the absence of answers.

It would really be nice to implement something that would let the people indulge and be more participative with it, though maintaining the current restrictions everyone has over chatting.

But the current one implemented is already good but a lot of people seem to be engrossed with the idea of getting something better. Probably to gain more control over what is being put out there, almost to the avail of everyone who joins right in.
