no, why? 2 and 12 can be achieved. You can't achieve 1 because each die will roll at least 1, the sum will be at least two (unless, off course, under some misterious circumstances one of the dies will stay floating in the air)

my table above showed how may combinations can be there to get that sum. thus, if you want

1 - can not be achieved
2 - is only 1+1
3 - is only 1+2
4 - is eather 3+1 or 2+2
5 - is eather 4+1 or 3+2
6 - is eather 5+1 or 4+2 or 3+3
7 - is eather 6+1 or 5+2 or 4+3
and so on, and it degrades because
10 is 5+5 or 6+4 - there's no 3rd combination for 10.
11 is ONLY 5+6.

When you have two dice.
Imagine two dice, red and green.
One thing that you can do is work out what the total of the dice is.
The dice experiment allows you to simulate throwing pairs of dice and see what the result is.
This is a good introduction to probability, since you can see which combinations are more likely.
But the real world, or even a simulated real world, never matches completely with calculated probability.

So how do we calculate it?
The first thing is to work out what the range is.
You can't have a total less than 2 (both dice being 1) and you can't have a total more than 12 (both dice being 6).
The easiest way to see what the probabilities is to write out the possible totals.
There are 36 of them in all (6 x 6).

But in our case all that matters is the SUM value. We need only the sum. If 2 dies was rolled as 5 and 2 - in THIS game it doesnt't matter at all, wich of them rolled 5 and wich rolled 2. All that matters that both dies summary rolled 7.

2 1+1 , 1+1 2/36 = 6%

Unfortunately, if you went to Vegas with your probabilities, you'd also go ~broke~....

As Les has repeatedly tried to demonstrate, and no matter WHAT ELSE your math tells you, 7 is the "sweet spot", with 6 and 8 close behind....
And in this particular game, if someone is unfortunate to work themselves up into about the 9 spot, you'll start to see a little panic in their eyes... And appropriately so!!

What matter is the probabilty of a sum occuring. And 2+5 and 5+2 are distinct events.

As for counting 1+1 AND 1+1 as you suggested.. that doesn't make any sense.

To make it very simple:
Each number on a single dice has a chance of 1/6. In order to get the sum of two, both dice have to land on 1. Thus: 1/6 * 1/6 = 1/36
For a sum of 3, one of the dice has to land on 1, the other on 2. It doesn't matter which one is 1 and which one is two. Consequently: (1/6*1/6) is the chance for "1+2" to occur. (1/6*1/6) is also the chance for "2+1" to occur. Add those up and you get 2/36 or 1/18.

I don't know how to make it any clearer. If you are still in doubt, just write a program that simulates dicerolls and let it roll a couple of million times or whatever and check the distribution.

YES if we take green and red die, there are 2 total variants of dropping 2+1 (the other 1+2)
However that's if we CARE of the order they fall. tha fact is that in this game to get number 3, we are interested in the situation when numbers 2&1 can drop. We don't care wich die dropped 2, and wich dropped 1 whatsoever. We care only that ONE OF THEM dropped 2, and the OTHER dropped 1 at the same time. This doesn't add or take from the odds, because it's just the COMBINATION of numbers we are interested in, not the order. There are total 21 COMBINATIONS that can be dropped with 2 d6. Not 36 of them.

Study math and logic better, really. I'm done with explaining the simpliest shit to you.

Actually, there are two different possibilities: The green die rolling a 4 and the red die rolling a 1, the green die rolling a 3 and the red die rolling a 2, the green die rolling a 2 and the red die rolling a3, the green die rolling a 1 and the red die rolling a 4
