Tease Turnoffs

Post by johnwhite »

This is just a rant of certain problems I have with certain webteases.

Misspellings - There is no bigger turnoff than reading through a tease where every other word is misspelled or missing letters. It's not hard to spellcheck your work. Read through it and have someone else read through it. If English isn't your first language, have someone who speaks english as their first language read through it.

Picture sizes - Keep the same consistent picture sizes. I hate clicking continue and each time there is a different size picture.

The biggest pet peave of mine overall is when you read about 10 pages into a tease, really getting into it and then all of a suden it asks you to use this item or that item. WTF? What if I don't have these items? Please put the required items on the first page of the tease. Seriously.

Top tip: Put your cursor in the top left of the first image and keep clicking there, that way you don't have to move it during the entire tease. :-)

space bar advances as well
then you can use left or right hand or even nose

I think john white meant actual picture size.

Or else hovers his carpets.

But in essence he is correct a lazy tease is not so enjoyable.

Attention to detail is good in every aspect of the finished product

I don't mind the occasional misspelling, but when you've got say 30 or so (just picking a number to make a point) in a 20 page tease, it does get quite distracting. Typos happen to everyone including me. I can let that go, but that many just screams, "I don't care about the quality of my work." Well, if you don't care about your work then I certainly don't either.

I'm even more lenient with punctuation because I understand that not everyone is familiar with ALL the rules, but simple things like a period at the end of a sentence (or question mark, or exclamation point, whatever) or capitalizing the first letter of the first word in a sentence....seriously, everyone should know at least that much.

I agree about the pictures though. One size throughout the tease please. It's far less distracting. Personally, I don't like the tiny pictures I see now and then, but if that's what you're using, fine. Just use that throughout the entire tease.

Disjointed Pics: Having pictures of the same woman alternating in different outfits or different women switching back and forth every pic or so when it has nothing to do with the story, is very distracting and takes the fun out of it. For instance, there was a Kate tease once where the author actually apologized in the middle of the tease saying something like, "Sorry, I know this isn't Kate, but there aren't any pictures of her screwing any guys and this girl looks close." If you have to say something like that, use another model and certainly don't interrupt my "thought process" for a random interjection from outside my fantasy world.
Great free cam site! Lot of girls who love teasing.

I'll even be posting brief reviews of girls who are good at it to narrow down your search! :-D

I think misspellings are due to the fact, that English is not a native language to everyone here. So whining won't help anyone with anything. I'd suggest you to just make more good teases, that suit all those rules and quality marks you'v mentioned. The more there is, the more there will be.

Spelling errors

Slides written in shorthand.

Random pictures that don't match the text or theme.

Missing pictures.

Flash teases in general!

I'm still willing to proofread English only teases before they're made public if needed. Please just PM me to discuss.

I helped the author of the "The Business Trip" series (Caphalor42) by offering suggstions and corrections with their original document.

I would definitely like to do more.
Please PM me if you require someone to proofread a tease before you make it live/public. English teases only.

There have been many of these threads in the past. And you know what? When ever I click on the persons profile who's complaining and then go to 'view users teases', do you know what I see?

That's right, "Sorry, no teases found with this filter! Try loosening your criteria."

So, before you come in here complaining about the people who have had a go at actually contributing something, why don't you try it. I mean since you know how everyone has gone wrong, you should be able to write a brilliant tease, right?

And I'm not saying that some people don't need a few small pointers, mostly due to English not being there first language, but that's what feedback threads are for.

So in future try putting something into the community before shooting down those who have. ;-)

The real one for me is to read suddenly appearing "this is my friend <name>" and to see another girl. I'll do the tease only if I like the girl, I want to see her, not her often ugly "friends" =)

What he wrote shouldn't be taken as whining - I personally feel some are far too sensitive and defensive about such matters.

The intention of the original poster is clearly to shed light on a few aspects that could make authors and teases in general better - for everyone's benefit.... And I think he is very right in doing so.

For me, whose main language is also non-English, I still think language gets far too less focus in a lot of teases - not so much because what's written is hard to actually understand, but because spelling errors or generally bad language attracts attention, which in turn means it takes the attention away from whatever you should be focused on at any given time.

Now, the main "fault" with bad language in teases lies with the editor itself and its lack of spelling tools imo. The international nature of the Internet is a truly great thing, and it's awesome to have a large number of great tease authors from different countries contributing - but all the more need for the tools to support the author in terms of spelling (and maybe also to some extent grammar)

Manual help on language issues is clearly an alternative, but a less optimal one. First of all because it's more work and time consuming, which in turn means it will rarely get done.

Automatic spelling help in the editor itself would be by far the best way to address that issue.

And all that said, don't let such topics get to you Nez. You are a great author; don't mistake constructive threads such as this one for criticism on your work - it's all about people striving for making things even better.
Yes, I most certainly CAN do it again!

Yea, and for that we should all tell him: "Thanks, Captain Obvious, we didn't know none of it!"

The thread is pointless. It's no more than complaints that will not change anything. I have seen only 1 (ONE!) thread like this with a point - where the threadstarter offerd hes help to fix the grammar in ones teases. The rest - are just whining. And as already mentioned, the ones who start this are often just lurkers that think, that for some reason we all should make them happier by working harder and spending more hours/days on every next tease.
