mainly thinking about the lube drying up while its inserted...

Good question.

I wouldn't worry about lube. I never use any - but I do have to add that I've only used a butt plug for 4 to 5 hours now. Just water and sometimes saliva.

It really depends on the type of lube. Water-based lubes dry up inside you (same issue Kenneth will be having), that could lead to damage inside, or at the very discomfort, so for longer term they are not really the best choice. Oil-based lubes (vaseline also) will degrade the latex/rubber many anal toys are made of, so they are not the best choice either. Silicone lubes tend to be pricey, but they feature neither of the downsides of water or oil based lubes.

Like anything else it varies from person to person and prior experience. With slow progression and time, one can leave a buttplug in overnight which I guess would equate to 8 hours or so, though I don't see why one couldn't go longer. As with all play, take your time to build up, and be safe and SANE. Number one rule in any play...IF IT HURTS, STOP! In other words, your body will let you know how long you can leave it in.

I apologize for responding on what's more that likely to be a "dead" forum post, but this topic caught my interest and I hope to be able to share my thoughts about this.

My Mistress requires me to wear a butt-plug daily, usually for around 8-ish hours per day - sometimes longer, sometimes less. Every morning, Mistress chooses a butt-plug for me and either inserts it Herself or makes me insert it in Her presence. Most of the time its a medium-sized silicone plug, which is a great size-material combination for extended long-term wearing... especially if it will basically be worn for the majority of the day. While I had to be trained up to wearing a butt plug every day, it didn't take long at all. Mistress started me slowly at an hour per day, then 2 hours, 3 hours, et cetera, et cetera (spread evenly throughout the course of a month or so).

The longest Mistress has kept me plugged up has been for just over 3 whole weeks, aside from short breaks for obvious reasons. To ensure that I couldn't remove my plug without permission, Mistress kept a butt plug harness locked on snugly the whole time. Afterward, I was not only more attentive and submissive to Her, but I had no negative side effects from the 3 week period.

Whenever my Mistress has Her period, I am made to wear the butt plug harness during the entire time... so, having a plug inserted continuously (minus bathroom breaks) for 4-5 days at a time every month hasn't caused any issues either, despite it occurring at a certain frequency.

When it comes to lube, use something that won't dry up on your butt plug... silicone lubricant it AMAZING, but *can only be used on non-silicone materials!!* Whenever I am filled with a silicone plug, Mistress generally has me use normal water-based lube, but thankfully allows more frequent re-lube breaks. For overnight insertions, I usually use petroleum jelly on my plug and it works just fine.
