To be clear, I'm not leaving the site, merely withdrawing from the competition.
I can see how you might want to avoid the appearence of influencing the TOTM competition, but I do hope you don't stop writing teases because of that.
I think withdrawing from the competition is an ethical idea. So don't compete. There's no reason to stop authoring teases, though... unless making yourself ineligible impacts your motivation to write them. If that's so, I understand. *shrug* Otherwise, I'd appreciate it if you'd please explain it.
Either way, do what you think is right, and thank you.

I (and I'm sure others) are really really upset that you will not be writing teases; and are angry with the said member who made inflamatory comments ..... As our being upset upsets you, I suggest you keep writing teases to minimise your and the boards total upset level.

Word!
I can see the sense in not wanting to compete - although I don't have any issues with it or have any doubts about integrity, others might have. So I read you on that one.
But stop writing teases? Why do that? The two have nothing to do with one another as far as I can see.
Well, how about we (the site) do something about that concern, with a more general solution?
I'm sure you cannot possibly be the first or only person to ever have issues with the competition aspect of things, and I'm likewise sure some future authors will also share such concerns, so how about adding a setting where a tease is not open for ratings at all?
Think of it as a "friendly, just for fun" category where rating is completely taken out of the system. (not just rating set to 1, but actually not there at all)
A lot of games have "friendly" modes where you don't play for points/money/credit whatever it might be. I don't see why teases couldn't have a similar mode, removing the competition aspect for those who don't want it.
It's a crying shame if the rating system (as handy I as personally think it is) keeps great authors from writing teases. We can't have that without a fight lol (take it as a compliment)

Why make things so complicated ? Why cant Indy siImply write teases, get rated, but not included in TOTM at all ?
The ratings IMHO are not just for the author, but mainly for the readers.
Indy, dont take any rash decisions, the chasity thing is messing with your head

In other words, it's a real pain in the ass for Seraph0x to overhaul the voting system to cater to a mere handful of authors. In the end, I'd leave it to him, but I couldn't justify asking him to put the work into such a (personal opinion) trivial thing.
Not a bad suggestion though. I'm the guy that usually plays those games.
I hear you on that and gotta admit I agree. It would be doing work to cater to a rather small minority I guess. Then again, not my call either, just an idea.
If I can speak frankly, the best and simplest solution would be if you would raise above the petty criticism and continue writing your great teases - we like them!
I think that a prolific author of excellent teases should not stop contributing because 1 (one) other member with a somewhat variable attitude towards voting decides to have a little rant.
For some reason the vocal minority always seems to have more influence than the silent majority.
