What i find is that I often get tired/dont like the sounds of a certain metronome (the popular online metronome). In that case, I prefer listening to my own metronome (locally installed, gtick on linux).

Having numbers instead of sounds makes it easier to modify. If one page is 120, another 90, another 100 etc, and I'm super excited, its more pleasing to modify it to 90, 60, 70 ...you get the idea. Only having sounds alone would make it difficult and annoying.
So, I say have both instructions, and optionally sound for those wo want it.
