Tips and Tricks: New User Orientation

Post by cactusman »

I thought it might be useful to have a thread with tips and tricks for using milovana.com for new users.
Please contribute...

A basic distinction is between the three different kinds of teases on this site. Audio teases have a whitish wave-like icon. Flash teases have an icon that is a small red circle with an "f" inside it on the upper left corner of the thumbnail view displayed on the webtease page (http://www.milovana.com/webteases/). Other webteases which do not use flash, are what I will call "regular" webteases.

FLASH TEASES:

It's useful to expand the view to full screen, by clicking on the little box in the upper right corner with crossed arrows. You can reduce back to to your browser by using the escape key (on a PC at least). Practice this a few times if you're not alone! One reason to do this is that the pictures in flash teases are subject to additional scaling if you are not viewing the tease full screen. That causes some of the pictures to not look their best.

Sometimes a flash tease is waiting for a response, which often appears as a box to click in the middle of the right margin.

You can exit a flash tease by using your browser's back button at any time. (You'll have to escape full screen view first).

REGULAR WEB-TEASES:

To advance to the next page of a regular webtease, you can click on the red "continue", but there are two easier ways: typing a space (space-bar) or clicking on the picture. I usually click on the picture, as I seem to be drawn to that. :-)

FAVORITES AND NAVIGATION:

When you are logged in to the site (and only then), you can make a tease you like a favorite by clicking on the pink heart ( ) that is in the upper right corner of its area on the webtease navigation page (http://www.milovana.com/webteases/). You need to be registered and log in for this to work; this is one of the main reasons to register and log in.

To access your favorites later, you again must be logged in. Then go to advanced search by clicking on the "Advanced Search" in red at the top of the main webtease navigation page, and then click on Favorites next to Personalize.
It's the same as (http://www.milovana.com/webteases/#favs=1).

Using advanced search is great, especially when you find an author you like, or if you want to look for teases with particular fetishes, etc.

You can rank the results on the navigation page by rating (http://www.milovana.com/webteases/#sort=rating) by clicking on "rating" next to "Sort by" at the top of the navigation page, and this also works for any advanced search.

Besides sorting by rating, you may want to sort by views (http://www.milovana.com/webteases/#sort=views), which is great for finding teases that people come back to again and again.

What did I miss that you have found helpful?

I'm not at all an expert in flash tease making, since I've never tried it. But you can go to this posting:

http://www.milovana.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1033

That explains what to do. There are other posts in the forum, search for "nyx" which is the name of the flash tease editor.

Note that flash teases have (currently) no rating, so if you like flash teases, sorting by rating won't help you find them. Instead, you may want to sort by views (http://www.milovana.com/webteases/#sort=views).
How come views? As it doesn't seem to list them altogether or similar, ironically my favourite way of sorting teases for flash teases is the way you don't recommend, by rating. As you say they don't have rating this puts them all to the very back of the list together, so I like to sort via rating them jump straight to the very last pages where the flash teases are whenever I look for a flash tease that is.

This was a good trick for grouping all the flash teases together. Thanks. (But now that flash teases can be rated, it's won't work any more.)

Now that flash teases can be rated, the best way to find highly rated flash teases is to go to Advanced search, and then click on the ratings tab and click on the Type FlashTease. It's available here:

http://www.milovana.com/webteases/?sort=rating&type=2

Another thing that novices might try is to search in the Announcements forum for "Flash Tease of the Month" where you can find some flash teases that were recommended in the days before ratings of flash teases.

REGISTER

Another basic tip for new users is to register on this site. Registration lets you store favorites on the site, which is helpful if you find an especially good tease you want to come back to often.
It also lets you post in the forum (e.g., to encourage webtease authors) and vote for the "Tease of the Month".

To register, look at the upper right corner of your browser's window for milovana...

HOW TO START ON MILOVANA

How to start with all the webteases here?

One option is to look at the highest rated teases. To do that, from the webtease page (http://www.milovana.com/webteases/), near the top right (but under the white area) you will see "Sort by latest | ratings | views", you click on "ratings".
See also the tease of the month winners (http://www.milovana.com/webteases/?tags=totm) and the thread on flash teases of the month (http://www.milovana.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2596).

Another place to start is with the classic teases: http://www.milovana.com/classics/
which include some really good ones and give you some background.

BE CAREFUL!

First of all be careful with your own body when doing the teases here. Use common sense and don't do anything that might hurt yourself permanently or cause medical issues. The tease authors may or may not have tried the instructions themselves, and there's no guarantee that they are safe.

You should also be somewhat wary of links that redirect you to other websites, if you haven't visited them before. It's possible that your computer could catch a virus, etc. Be sure to have anti-virus software installed and turned on to protect your computer. (With the FireFox browser, you might also use the NoScript add-on to block various kinds of scripting attacks on your computer.)

Finally, be careful of your own privacy. Think about what personal information you want to reveal in your postings and profile here when you register. And think about the consequences of sending personal information to others. For example, some teases ask you to send photos of yourself to the author or someone on the web; you should think very carefully about doing that, since you will potentially be publishing them on the web for all to see.

It's the same as (http://www.milovana.com/webteases/#favs=1).
Couple things to note here:

1: At some point (2-3 months back), the web server was changed to use ? instead of # to separate address from variables. Unfortunately this was not done in a backwards compatible way, breaking a TON of links, including several of the embedded links on the milovana web site itself. (hate to sound grumpy, but this was a bad glitch)

2: The advanced search option for web teases no longer exists (at least no such link is displayed for me)
There is a text field and a "Search" button, that's it. Fair enough, favs can be accessed by direct address as you described (with the ? instead of # update), but I can't find any advanced search for the life of me. Only on the forum, which is part of the phpbb forum system and having nothing to do with tease searches.

Thanks
Yes, I most certainly CAN do it again!

I think the comment about # in urls for milovana no longer working is wrong. For me ( in Safari) I still see these urls with # and the one I gave for the favorites still works.

The advanced search link is visible only on the webteases page next to and to the right of the search box. Please look again...

We didn't change anything about the browser in at least six months. I think what's happening is that our JavaScript isn't compatible with your browser. Could you let me know what browser you're using? Alternatively, just use our Client Detect page and submit the information that way.

Weird, me too. Do you have any extensions like NoScript or AdBlock?

Yep, I was running adblock, albeit without active filters on milovana, yet it seemed to be the issue anyway

Most stunning issue is that disabling it also made the # syntax in the addresses work again too.

Weird to say the least.

Oh well, all sorted then, thanks a ton

Strange indeed, but that's how these things are sometimes.
