The Attack of the Grammar Police

Post by Makarov »

This post shall hereby be known as the attack of the grammar police. The reason why is that it's a lot more dramatic than "www.thesaurus.com is a great web site to prevent redundancies".

I bring up this point due to a recently posted tease "Dance With A Devil?", and it's almost criminal usage of the word "whilst". Now then, I don't mean to pick on the tease. A lot of teases use "whilst". Stroke 50 times whilst staring at my boobies. Do 40 jumping jacks whilst reciting scripture. Dance the dance of the gypsy queens whilst probing outer space.

Point is, quite a few teases have used "whilst", and I wonder why. The word "while" is good enough, isn't it? Do this while doing that? I think "while" is at least five shitloads better than "whilst". Try using the word "whilst" in daily conversation and you'll see.

That's all for now!

Well... there are two sides to that story. While is spoken, and shoud thus be used where the teaser is speaking directly to you, but whilst is ´better to use in texts since that is a so called written word. I think however that most of the times it is used here (and all the ones you mentioned) while should have been used in stead.

Sorry for going all "4. grade english teacher" on you all.

whilst i read this post i was drinking a cup of tea while playing with my balls.

I don't really see any problem with using either but you are right, while should be used when someone is speaking directly to you

Jessus,man...good thing the US got independent..otherwise prince Charles the big ears one would rule over and teach the "proper slavery" english. The ONLY good thing the english have is their spanking methods. That's why I want to move in London, maybe some cruel "proper english" mistress would administer some "old school" english style canning to me?..ehh..dreams..who wants to live in England?..nobody,everybody knows it rains all the time, for God's sake...maybe for a weekend I'll do it,though...but I have to say "whilst" and that's insanity.I'll never say that.
hehehe

i'm going to go out on a limb and say your a U.S citizen then.

with out starting a nationalist flame war ill politely ask you to reevaluate your views of British culture and life, we haven't been an empire for almost 50 years and are one of the greatest democracy's on this earth with a long and proud history.

Alas we do talk about the weather a great deal but apart from the rather shitty June that we are currently experienced due to the heat wave in Europe i should tell you that most of the year Britain is actually dry, especially in the east midlands which is now classed as a drought area due to climate change and our rather naf capitalist greedy water companies.

Who wants to live in england, well theres roughly 60 million of us and the number of immigrants clearly shows people are interested in living here and i for one wouldn't want to live any where else for any longer than needed to experience the diverse nature of other countries.

oh and the queen is head of the crown not Charles and unless half the royal family dies theres not alot of chance him ever becoming king.

Now i hope you don't take offense to this informative driven post it is simply here to help you widen your knowledge of other nations and to break your stereotypical and prejudice views.

Now i will just go and fix your little Quotation marks.

Hey Guys

I was just browsing the teases when i stumbled across this post.
(attack of the grammar police :hmmm: )
this is btw my first post. :)

I am 19 and still a student. My mainsubject german and the subject english both count to my favorites. I seem to have a good writing skill and especially caused by my mainsubject i have built out some kind of analytic view for text. It works for the english language too. However this is not about *posing* but the - to me- most important point is:

Milovana.

To say it in one word. To use some more words:
Since I was 16 i searched the web for webteases. Remembering a well-known site: "Orgasmdenial.com" then it was gone and a long time it was silent in the community of T&D. But then luckily i found this fantastic site here and i enjoyed every tease i saw and read.
So my point is: I am glad that i found my way to here. The teases are very good. And when i enjoy them i don't care of the spelling. When i sit here the everyday life is the last thing to care about. This is "my time" where i can relax and don't have to analye, assess and interprete everything.
Just chill it ;)

Oh, if I wanted to analyze everything, I'd have a field day and a half. If an English teacher read all the teases on this site, there would be a lot of red ink. "Whilst" just stuck out for me. Probably because I pretend to be a writer on my spare time.

can`t see the point, as uk english is a growing language, and yes a few usa english words are in there just as french and german words are, i mean even a word from a spice girl song is in there now.

so on this day lets wish all the yanks a happy 4th of July.
on your knees and pray I am in a good mood

As I recall..it was the day we,the yankies got independent of you,the english....thank you..Happy 4th of July to you, dear.Nothing like being free of the empire.Feels good to speak american english with no ,,Lords,, watching me over the shoulder.Too bad the english had red coats, they were easy targets...no offence, but your last battle sucked big time...if you were smart, america would have been still your milk-cow teritorry, like the India and others..

Long live Philadelphia...and the 4th of july.

Never use the word whilst and I am English.

Not sure what point is being made by dannywanker? Since you have been around for 200 years I would have thought you had learnt some forgiveness for past history. Shame. Still we have MacDonalds and Coke now thanks to our American friends!

So lets just let it lie......... oh and if our Royal family want to go live in the US that's fine by me :-D
