Where is the setting to change that?

To edit settings for board notifications on IM's, topics you've started, etc:

Forum -> Control Panel -> Board Preferences -> Edit Global Settings -> (read the different options)
and
Forum -> Control Panel -> Board Preferences -> Edit Posting Defaults -> (read the different options)

For forum topics you're subscribed to:

Forum -> Control Panel -> Overview -> Manage Subscriptions

1. Go to the Board Preferences.

2. Set Notify me on new private messages to No.

Ooooohhhh. I thought that was for the forum where it gives you a bold, red notice at the top. Thank you.
