I don't thing the genre is dying. There is great new stuff from time to time. Cockhero Goonaton has been released just now and brings over 9h of new content in three parts. There are also CHs created on other platforms, like i know of the whiteboy cockhero stuff shared by a guy on reddit with countless episodes (focused on a special kink of course, so a bit more niche than the other stuff). Yeah, the game might not be relevant anymore. I have never played it, but gooning is kind of a trend currently.

CHs are just a lot of work to make and nowadays they got a lot harder to share. Many streaming sites nowadays delete custom edits quickly, this community requires invites and the site is down a lot. So many guys that would like it and might have the skills to make them just never heared about the concept and might never discover it. So they would need need to reinvent it, and even if they do, they might do it somewhere else and call it somewhat else.

I think cock hero films are dying out.

3 - niches and fetish interests are mostly fine and all - the "mainstream" quality or frequency dropped off and the result was the most visible/accessible videos are aimed at interests I don't have
4 - audible beat meters suck and makers doing without audible beat meters wound up going completely over to PMV-style instead
5 - on topic #4 as popularity rose, so many uploaders listing a "NEW!" 2-5 minute CH videos are really just a premade PMV that someone threw a beatmeter onto - rather than setting up and editing a new video... start seeing enough of these over years and you lose interest in the genre entirely
6 - automated tools for assembling/scripting makers are/were using to churn these out just look and feel like the same shitty fuckin slop taking over everything

these days it seems like most of the CH vids are made for scripted devices like SR6 or e-stim to handle the stroking/beats and the "manual" user the genre started for, isn't part of the equation anymore
If you liked that pacing, or the style because it wasn't demanding you change up to a weird pattern every 30 seconds, you're better off searching old catalog than scrolling through all the slop taking over PMVhaven

I was never a creator as I didn't have the skills or time, but one thing mentioned earlier was that having less users and less feedback was demotivating for creators (making the views of the watchers important).

I'm one of those watchers who found CH getting longer and I found myself gravitating to shorter and simpler ones. I also fondly remember the first ones I watched as they were so new, the later ones not so much. Then I got into longer term denial, so a cock hero focused on a long tease followed by an orgasm at the end didn't fit quite as well. So I ended up with short CH (shorter ones don't expect a cum at the end, or its only a focus for a few seconds), and then drifted from short CH to short PMVs.

I logged in after many months because I just found this thread quite interesting, and as someone who registered in 2015 (more than a decade now) wanted to share my point of view.

See, I saw my first CH (I can’t remember the exact name now, but it was rather mediocre by today’s standards) on Porn Hub, way before the first purge. And I was fascinated by the new format. Until then, my masturbation habits had been quite mainstream: Just find a reasonably good free streaming video, usually at low res, and jerk it off until I came.

So after entering this rabbit hole I found Milovana, the source of most CHs, and I registered with this user you can still see here.

After entering Milovana, I’ve “lived” several stages, and during the period of 2015 to 2021 the quality of the videos went upwards, it was a non-stop evolution towards: Better paced, longer, more creative, and with better resolution videos. Because when I first entered Milovana, due to the technological challenges I guess, resolution was usually under HD, then it slowly ramped to HD, and then 4K.

I also experienced how the regular “stage based” CHs with a rigid beat slowly evolved towards a more organic experience and creators put more and more effort into the “progression” feeling, something that for me, defines the genre. Similar, overlapping experience to yours. After years of CH-ing, I, too, found that I love softcore buildups far more than the traditional patterns...

fakeblah333 created 16 videos, each of them 1 - 2 hours long. Those are PMVs but slower and high quality softcore. Or check out digitalparkinglot's compilation of them called CH-Tranquilizer-PMV (or the CH version).
