I was looking at the Here Comes Trouble II tease and I'm officially curious. Before I try this however I want to see if anyone knows how safe it is to masturbate with sand in your lube. There was another post which mentioned the possibility of hundreds of little cuts which doesn't sound very good.
Anyone know/have experience with this?

Not exactly 100% unsafe. It can be done with no problems whatsoever.
What you need to do is be smart about it. There are tons of accidents every year from our fetishes.
1st of all, make sure its clean sand. If you cant be sure its clean sand then I wouldn't partake in it.
Get it from Home Depot, boil it for a good half hour and then dry it out. Otherwise if you DO get an irritation from it, you wont have any infections.
2nd of all, go slow. Don't grind it into your sensitive skin. This will ensure that you'll get microscopic cuts and irritation, which cannot be good. Go slow, it is definitely an interesting feeling, but be smart and take it easy.
3rd of all, be in control at all times. I wouldn't recommend anyone giving you a handy with sand in the lube. Only you know what is hurting you, or irritating you. Which brings me to another point, if you do have extra sensitive skin, then this is not for you. Also, control means making sure at all times that it is not getting near the tip of your urethra, you don't want to get it inside of your penis. That can cause infection and impaction.
4th of all, if you have a foreskin, then this may not be for you. It can get embedded and cause problems.
Substitutes- If you absolutely must try this, then listen to what is stated above. But if you can't stand the idea of using sand, then use something similar. There are exfoliating lotions and soaps that have little beads in them that can give a really neat effect. Not so much geared toward discomfort though.

substitute salt as pretend sand
with stroking, in time the salt dissolves, giving you first annoyance and then slowly the possibility of relief
