My Handy1 is nearing its EoL.
What should my next upgrad be? The in production Handy2 or a SR1 (with twist)?
Handy2 or SR1?
Re: Handy2 or SR1?
Just my $0.02. I just built an SSR1. What a pain. It is stronger than Handy, faster than Handy.. subjectively quieter than Handy.
... and I've managed to use it for whole of 15 minutes before it does something stupid like stops working. Or resets itself. At that point I had the option for going with the FUN-SR1 or Handy.
The software side is not a pain, but it is different. Handy has full ecosystem so if you don't want to play around with Intiface, and t-code and.. Handy just works.
Yea, I went with Handy. I will try to use the SSR1 yet, but the simplicity of Handy cannot be beat. In addition, SSR1 requires two cables (Power and USB) even if it has WLAN functionality. Can't comment on FUNSR1. The thing with that is to do with power. SSR1 takes in 20V via USB-C to power the motor. Even if you are using WLAN and don't need the serial connection from USB, it needs to be connected as it powers the microcontroller. I just received a buck converter to give it 5V from 20V rail, but it requires either electronical separation or a switch to remove the conversion when the USB IS connected.
Wouldn't want to burn out my motherboard with feedback 20V, now do I?
I guess it all comes down to what it is you prefer. SSR1 is fully customisable, way cheaper (cost me like 50€ in parts), and is a fun project in itself. But it is not production toy. I do have an OSR2 as well and even that one is more reliable than the SSR1.
The suppoort for TempestMax toys in discord is amazing so if you go that way, you''re not alone.
