[discussions] why old styles ch dead?
Hi all creators ,,,,I would like just to ask why no one makes any more the old style cock hero with instructions and dialogues ? it seems that all new videos are well made but lack of the old innovative approach

Re: [discussions] why old styles ch dead?
I think you've answered your own question there - it's hard to be old and innovative.

Re: [discussions] why old styles ch dead?
Some of the old style ones take a lot of work. It's easier to not deal with a beatmeter etc, easier to just pop a beat over a full length scene etc.
The ones that come out with lots of attention and polish are still fantastic though. :)

Re: [discussions] why old styles ch dead?
Far too many got absurd. Does anyone really want to be a "friction-burn hero"? Plus, too-frequent or too-complex pattern-changes means the "hero" has to pay too much attention to the beat-meter. The meter becomes an annoyance.zou2oury wrote: Mon Oct 07, 2024 2:43 am Hi all creators ,,,,I would like just to ask why no one makes any more the old style cock hero with instructions and dialogues ? it seems that all new videos are well made but lack of the old innovative approach
Whenever there's a no-meter option, that's my go-to. When there isn't a no-meter option, I ignore the meter if it gets silly. So IMO the considerable extra effort that goes into creating the beat-meter is literally wasted for anyone who doesn't really want it.
Some of the estim-specific vids are good (i.e. those that have some estim dialog included in the video). Although, again, they kill immersion if they try to create sudden spikes etc.
Re: [discussions] why old styles ch dead?
I don't know, but I sure miss it. What would be the fun of Guitar Hero without a beat? A beatmeter isn't necessary, but a lot of videos advertised as Cock Heros nowadays are just extended PMVs. Nothing against PMVs, but that's a completely different genre.
Sometimes innovation is not needed when you land on the perfect formula.

I'll also give a shoutout to AlchemyX for continuing to produce fantastic classic Cock Hero style videos while finding ways to keep things fresh.

I can't agree more with that! It's been more than 6 months that we are working on a new release. (But hey, we're not so far from the end ;) )
I also like CHs with interesting patterns that fits perfectly the music. It's pretty rare these times, that's one of the reasons that got us into CH creation!
Totally agree!chfluxfan wrote: Mon Oct 07, 2024 8:02 pm Beatmeter isn't necessary, but a lot of videos advertised as Cock Heros nowadays are just extended PMVs. Nothing against PMVs, but that's a completely different genre.

There was a thread about this years ago.
- The generation who made them is aging out of the drive to consume them.
- Nobody is passing the craft of creation on to a new generation.
- The new generation has no interest in this style of content.
- Mobile centric video editors cannot produce a complex beat meter.
- A lot of work goes into making a high quality video and the return is only passion.

Re: [discussions] why old styles ch dead?
The reason the old style Cock Hero is dead is because the Cock Hero format sucks:zou2oury wrote: Mon Oct 07, 2024 2:43 am I would like just to ask why no one makes any more the old style cock hero with instructions and dialogues ?
It was a clever parody of a video game that was popular ages ago. The novelty of that is long gone. Now, it only appeals to people who enjoy the specific fetish of following instructions. Beyond that, it is aesthetically terrible! The beat meters and other instructions are often executed in crude ways with little artistic merit. In fact, some of the typeface choices, beat meters, and all added beat audio effects make otherwise compelling videos look and sound worse!
fragrantEmulsion's response, which some people seem to think is insightful, just repeats the question or provides some incorrect answers.
Let's look at it:
"Only old people like it and young people don't" is just repeating the question. But why don't they like it? I've attempted to answer: because the novelty is gone and the format fundamentally sucks.fragrantEmulsion wrote: Tue Oct 08, 2024 1:34 pm

Beyond the (bad) aesthetics, there is not much that's technically challenging that needs "passing on". Cock Hero editors didn't invent video editing and while a beat meter might seem technically challenging to a total beginner, it's actually a simple effect for a person who has animated anything in any digital program.fragrantEmulsion wrote: Tue Oct 08, 2024 1:34 pm

Furthermore, if you, dear reader, believe that contemporary PMV artists such as noodledude, wezzam, balek, Shchokoitsia and very many others are not making CH edits because they couldn't possibly make a beat-meter, you are dreaming. Imagine looking at amazing edits with effects like speed ramps, motion tracking, animated motion graphics, and complex compositions with careful masking, all color-graded and tightly tied to the music, and thinking "ah but they don't grasp the subtle art of beat meters!"
tl;dr
Young, horny people are making mind-bendingly amazing edits all the time. All you have to do is look.

Re: [discussions] why old styles ch dead?
This really does not make sense to me as an argument. The aesthetics are fine, but can be implemented poorly just like any other effect. I could make an equivalent argument that poor modern editing sometimes makes potentially compelling scenes worse.A Ghoul Editor wrote: Fri Oct 11, 2024 12:09 pmThe reason the old style Cock Hero is dead is because the Cock Hero format sucks:zou2oury wrote: Mon Oct 07, 2024 2:43 am I would like just to ask why no one makes any more the old style cock hero with instructions and dialogues ?

I certainly don't find the overly edited modern PMV meta arousing at all. It's just aimed at attention spans so short that you need a triple split screen which changes every half-second to avoid being bored. Personally, my mind cannot even parse what it's looking at at that pace and it does nothing for me.
I will agree that the technical side of classic CH videos is not very challenging. The "instructional" nature of the videos is a red herring, in my opinion. It's just a side effect of attention spans and ability to multitask. It's much easier to follow a video for an hour if you have a beatmeter. Most modern PMVs are only 5-10 minutes.
