Correct spelling

Post by blueballer »

Nothing destroys a good tease faster than poor spelling, and that's what the "Learn your place" creator did. If you're going to take the time to create a web tease, why not take the time to do it right? "Salve" instead of "slave" etc.

Yeah nice one mate, mock my spelling.

I'm terribly sorry for being dyslexic and all. Say, why don't we go and find some guys in wheelchairs and mock them too?

And you have 4 posts and no teases, so why not contribute to the Milo community before you come here having a go at me?

In principle, I'm with blueballer. Bad writing can often ruin a potentially good tease.

However, "Learn Your Place" doesn't fall into that camp. Blueballer could find countless better examples that are virtually unreadable due to any of the endemic problems that many teases suffer from: incomprehensible run-on sentences (sometimes with no punctuation), authors that don't know the difference between "your" and "you're", etc.

Pick a better target, blueballer.

It depends. Sometimes you can get really good teases that are written by people whos first language isn't English and so the narative is a little broken. But that dosn't prevent it from becoming a good tease. But if the narative is just sloppy and it's very apparent that no thought has been put into what's going on, then I don't like it.

In the modern day there is no reason for misspelling. None. Download Firefox, and all postings and such will be spell checked for you. Or make your teases in Word first. If you are dyslexic, then it is incumbent upon you to take extra care.

At the end of the day, a webtease is a voluntary contribution to this site. No one is obliged to make one, so I don't see how people can complain, especially those who have been members for almost 5 years and not contributed a tease themselves.

Yes, poor spelling/grammar does impact on the tease, but there's a polite way to point it out too. Maybe a pm, rather than public flaming.

Apologies if I've spoken out of turn here, but I thought dix did a good job on the tease and I don't think people who put effort into adding to this community should be discouraged from continuing to do so.

Okay that made me laugh.

But really, do yourself a favor, Firefox has built in spell checking. If it is an ongoing issue for you, you'll be very pleased with Firefox.

True, Firefox will do that for you. It obviously won't help with grammar though. And sometimes making a tease is a big job, some mistakes slip through the net!

I have Firefox (And I've been using it since long before the general public jumped on the bandwaggon thankyou.) And like most things, the Spellchecker is Americanised so I don't use it.

And it's not an issue for me. I can do just fine in life with out letting something a trivial as dyslexia get in my way.
But it seems to be an issue for other people, especially those who are just coming to this site to fulfill their own needs and not contribute anything back.

Actually, firefox's spellcheck wouldn't have told him that slave was salve, since salve is an actual word. I was wondering if that was purposeful for a moment, as if she was calling you her salve boy, meaning you were her ointment for whatever wound she might have, but I didn't feel like saying anything.

There's a British dictionary available for Firefox.

:-)

But dear, really I don't care. I honour your effort, and did not mean to criticise, I am sure you are a crowd favourite. Now I'm off to the banque, to cash a cheque.

Ta ta!
