I have experience with both.
A ruined orgasm the only pleasure is the build up. The actual orgasm is not satisfying cause of lack of stimulation.
Anal orgasm is a bit more complicated. When I started out I just felt slutty using my fingers or my dildo in my butthole. So I have only managed it one time. But as people have said, it is certainly better than a ruined orgasm. Just a very different experience to a regular orgasm.
It takes a lot more effort to achieve, but definitely satisfying to achieve.
My best description would be that it was a bit more of a slow release, rather than the big hit of a typical orgasm.

I think it's easier for some people and harder for others, then it highly depends on the mood and dildo/technique.
First anal orgasm I had were from fingering, prostate massage with the thumb.
