Discord server
Anyone have any thoughts on having a teasing software discord server? We've got one in the estim community and it works out really well. Forums like this are just so 90s.

Discord is a chat server. Information placed there are much more volatile.palvinolag wrote: Sat Jan 23, 2021 10:00 am Anyone have any thoughts on having a teasing software discord server? We've got one in the estim community and it works out really well. Forums like this are just so 90s.
I'm a software and hardware developer. If i spent my time for writing announcements, tutorials, etc. or giving support or help i would not throw it into a system where they are intended to be forgotten.
It seems that many people are unwilling to use the search functionality of a forum like this if they have a question. They prefer to throw the question on a chat system and expect that someone is willing to answer it.

Re: Discord server
Discord has a really good search functionality, better than here to be honest. Forums by design are just so clunky to navigate.

Forums are far less clunky to those who take the time to understand how to use them to their fullest extent.
And I would argue that Discord's search function, by very nature of Discord itself, is not as robust or helpful as that of a forum (for the purposes for which this forum is intended). With forums you have specifically titled posts with replies that are contextual only to that topic. In Discord you are searching through a jumble of streams-of-consciousness posts by the group.
-No titles.
-No topical threads (beyond the the "channel" distinction).
-It's far harder to follow the flow of a conversation if you're only interested in one thing being discussed. On Discord you might have 2-3+ groups of people all in the same channel cross-discussing different topics or content. Happens in literally all of the Discord servers I'm a part of. It doesn't matter how many channels you make.
Which leads to another problem: you couldn't feasibly create enough distinct Discord channels on a server to really encapsulate and categorize all of the discussion and interaction found here on the forum. You'd need many hundreds if not thousands of channels to accomplish the same goal.
Abandoning a format just because it was designed further in the past than another isn't the best strategy. The forum has stuck around for so long simply because it works well for the purpose it was created for.
There are plenty of Discord servers out there for content sharing etc etc, but no discord server can ever claim to have the archival depth and breadth and categorization of this forum. The content archived here (going back over a decade) is what makes it such a valuable and impressive asset to the community. We'd never have even a fraction of this if all we had were discord servers.

Really all Milovana needs is:
1. An updated phpbb theme/skin that's more mobile friendly.
2. Update how web teases are organized and displayed (distinct root categories (choose some of the obvious tags), popular last week/ month/ year, per root category, most favorited, views, rated, etc., etc.), and make it more mobile friendly.
3. Update the web tease ratings (perhaps members only, with just a thumbs up/down, since the difference between a 4 and 5 star can largely depend on the current mood of the reviewer, unnecessarily sinking some pretty good teases into the below 4.7 oblivion.)
4. Allow reviewers to change their rating on a tease (after bugs are fixed, etc. -- would require member only rating. Per IP rating is just broken by design anyway.)
5. Implement most of my changes in OpenEOS natively in Eos

Indeed. I think there are a number of improvements that can and should be made. In its current form Milovana is great and a daily visit for me.fapnip wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 12:34 amReally all Milovana needs is:OrgasmPhantasm wrote: Sat Jan 23, 2021 6:05 pm Forums are far less clunky to those who take the time to understand how to use them to their fullest extent.
If updated and modernized it could be absolutely fantastic.
