From what I have read, the risks are rupturing of a testicle from smacking or torsion of a testicle from pulling/twisting. Tying your balls has a risk of permenant tissue damage!

Great advice out there on this topic - the most important being that if you aren't sure, don't do it!
Try to find your limits by gradual experimentation. Just push a little tiny bit further each time until you find a limit for yourself. You do not want to do anything to your balls that would cause sharp pain or swelling that would continue after the session (dull aching is of course a natural side effect of whacking those guys!). Your balls can actually take a lot of punishment - the human body is very resilient - but you don't ever want to go too far.

I liked the point about not getting to the point where you are feeling nauseus - that's a sign that you've gone too far (at least for most guys)

Another important thing is to try to always strike with a flatter surface - palm of your hand instead of finger tips for example. This spreads the force and makes rupture far less likely.
