I'm currently publishing two novels in the Stories forum. There is a 60,000 character limit. Since Word allows me to track my characters in a story, I tried to keep my latest chapter to one post on the forum.
Word said I have 53,000 or so characters.
However, when I submitted the chapter, Milovana's system said it was over 65,000 characters.
Two questions. Why such a large discrepancy? Is there an accurate way for me to predict whether or not a chapter will exceed 60,000 characters?
Thanks in advance for any answers.
Here, for your reading pleasure, are the index files for my novels:

Re: Character limit for posts
spaces, man. Did you take the number WITH spaces? Because for forum engines it's the same character as any other.
Also the limit is due to optimization reasons. You technically CAN make it larger, but you should not. Forums never were intended to post novels, and, frankly, I never read something larger than a few paragraphs on forums. Because it's much harder to read than even from word.
You should really consider posting your stories as .doc files.

Re: Character limit for posts
Thanks, Nezhul. I checked. It doesn't include spaces or skipped lines. So I can't get an accurate count no matter what I do.
I agree with you that Milovana fora aren't the best place to publish novels. I bet few have the patience to read all that online.
However, it's convenient for me and I have a few devoted readers.

Re: Character limit for posts
Nezhul,
I'm very glad you pointed this out to me.I can add together the number of characters and the number of words and I'll be pretty close.
When I posted to Milovana, my last step is to double the number of paragraphs so there's space between each paragraph. That's pretty hard to count in Word, but I'll be close enough to tell.
Thanks again,

Re: Character limit for posts
or just update your MS office - mine shows the number of characters both with and without spaces.
