problem is - it doesn't. I have to have java for my own purposes, and as for VCL I had to manyally feed her dll's because until I did so vcl.log file reported that no vcl libriaries were found on my PC. So nope - it doesn't find them for some reason. I tried both bat and jar files to launch it and it still doesn't work.

Log from completely clean guideMe install (with debug mode to make logging enabled)

I've had an issue that the Host's pictures won't appear on the newest version of Heart's Club in the actual tease when it is running. When I open the XML file for it and try to put in the folder names in the code it won't let me save it without changing the format of the file.

that's OS's problem not the tease itself. You should put in the preferences to always display xml and txt extensions.

Ok, I figured it out eventually. By the way, maybe I'm BLIND, but there's no vlc dll's in the guideme folder, none. The only way it will work for you as is, is if you already have those dll's somwhere else, either in the VLC location or windows folder with other DLL's.

anyway...

If anyone comes across that problem, then:
1) go to http://www.videolan.org/
2) download the latest player for your system. NOTE that it is VERY importan to download x64 version if you have 64-bit os. It's written oddly and requires exactly the right dll's
3) if you still got problems, go to player's folder (C:/Program Files/VideoLAN/VLC) and copy libvlc.dll and libvlccore.dll from there and put them into guideMe root folder.

p.s. I strongly recommend philo to add those files in there anyway. At least the version linked in this thread doesn't have them in place - either that, or they are packed somwhere in some archives and are not found when vlcj Discovery makes a search for them.

You need the correct version of the libvlccore.dll, libvlc.dll and the plugins directory
These should be in the GuideMe_lib directory and if you use start.bat it should add the path to the directory so GuideMe looks there first.

It should use the version of java and vlc in the guideme directory rather than the default one on the machine.
(although for some reason it does not always do that, but then Microsoft always did think they knew better so added "helpful" additions to standards)

Close but no coconut

Java, vlc and swt must all be either 32bit or 64bit.
Spoiler: show
Boring technical bit
On a 32bit os that is easy, just use the 32bit versions.
For 64bit if you use the 32bit Guideme you must also use 32bit vlc and 32bit java otherwise it crashes
(GuideMe itself is neither 32 or 64 bit it is the places it interacts with the os that are, hence the SWT library that translates the controls to the native code on windows and mac, vlc and the java vm)

any tips?
I couldn't get it to work with Guideme 0.1.2, it froze at the start. I used version 1.0 and replaced the jar file with the one from 1.2, and then it worked.
i did this still didnt work:(

I installed VLC separetly and now java doesn't freeze anymore, but the videos still refuse to play and the logs complained about:
Spoiler: show
2015-02-17 12:23:28,947 ERROR MainShell - VLC intialisation error Failed to load the native library.

The error was "Unable to load library 'libvlc': JNA native support (win32-amd64/libvlc.dll) not found in resource path (GuideMe.jar)".

The required native libraries are named "libvlc.dll" and "libvlccore.dll".

In the text below <libvlc-path> represents the name of the directory containing "libvlc.dll" and "libvlccore.dll"...

There are a number of different ways to specify where to find the native libraries:
1. Include NativeLibrary.addSearchPath("libvlc", "<libvlc-path>"); at the start of your application code.
2. Include System.setProperty("jna.library.path", "<libvlc-path>"); at the start of your application code.
3. Specify -Djna.library.path=<libvlc-path> on the command-line when starting your application.
4. Add <libvlc-path> to the system search path (and reboot).

If this still does not work, then it may be necessary to explicitly add the native library directory to the operating
system configuration - e.g. on Linux this might mean setting the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable, or adding
configuration to the "/etc/ld.so.conf" file or the "/etc/ld.so.conf.d" directory. Of these options, setting
LD_LIBRARY_PATH is the only one that would not require root privileges.

Finally, it is not possible to mix CPU architectures - it is not possible for a 64-bit Java Virtual Machine to load
32-bit native libraries.

More information may be available in the log, specify -Dvlcj.log=DEBUG on the command-line when starting your application.

As have been said, if you have 32-bit java you will need 32 bit VLC and vice versa. So confirm that both are the same. ;-)

well since I have a 64 bit windows and had both versions of java installed it shouldn't have mattered that I was using a 32bit VLC, but installing 64bit VLC instead allowed me to play the videos now and there is sound inside the Hearts Club, but not in the random videos from the Help, but then again it seems those videos don't have sound at all.
And after closing the program I got 2-3 java error/crash messages which I didn't before. But they only seem to happen if I exit from the help section.
Something about: BEX64

Also I have to add, I'm kinda confused about the purpose of the "Delay" button. O.o

thats very strange...

i checked again and BOTH versions (GuideMe32-v0.1.0.zip and GuideMe64-v0.1.0.zip) have the plugins folder including libvlc.dll and libvlccore.dll . You're right that GuideMe v0.1.2.zip doesn't include them. That's why i wrote on the first page of this thread to use the v0.1.0 and just the GuideMe.jar from v0.1.2. You're sure, you unpacked the whole GuideMe v0.1.0.zip? "Your" version of GuideMe seems to be incomplete.
pekkasen wrote:Also I have to add, I'm kinda confused about the purpose of the "Delay" button. O.o
Oh, you're a CHEATER! ;-) :-P

These delay buttons only appear if you activate Debug Mode under Application Preferences in GuideMe. Their only purpose is to help debugging while creating a new script. It's not intended to be active while playing a tease.
Try GuideMe to play Milovana Teases offline or create your own offline teases with highres images and videos...

I unpacked

Code: Select all

"GuideMe" v0.1.2 (127 MB): mega.co.nz | depositfiles.com
That you recommend in the first post of this thread. And yea, considering I did it at least thrice while I tortured the hell out of it trying to make it work - I'm pretty sure I unpacked it fully and entirely. :-/

So didn't make it clear enough what i meant with this sentence on the same page before the download:
If GuideMe v0.1.2 doesn't work: Try to use your old (working) v0.1.1 GuideMe installation but replace your old "GuideMe.jar" with the newer one from the v0.1.2 zip.
I guess you never tried the v0.1.1 install... thats why you don't have the plugins folder. I will remove the v0.1.2 link from this thread and move it with a more clear description to the GuideMe Thread. Sorry that i confused you.
Try GuideMe to play Milovana Teases offline or create your own offline teases with highres images and videos...
