Off Topic: Your Political Orientation
I was just wondering what the political orientation of various people on here would be. I myself am radical right-wing. I believe in a leftist market socialist economy and right-wing social policy. I am a huge fan of the National Front in France and Geert Wilders.

You didn't list libertarian, which i would argue doesn't fit in the left/right spectrum.
Left - moral freedom, economic control
Right - moral control, economic freedom
libertarian - moral freedom, economic freedom
Left - moral freedom, economic control
Right - moral control, economic freedom
libertarian - moral freedom, economic freedom

Libertarian is center-right.Ms. Julie wrote:You didn't list libertarian, which i would argue doesn't fit in the left/right spectrum.
Left - moral freedom, economic control
Right - moral control, economic freedom
libertarian - moral freedom, economic freedom
I am against libertarianism as it serves only the individual and not the nation, my ideology of free-market socialism and rightist social policy can serve both the individual and the nation. With Islam looming on the horizon only strong secularist laws can hope to overcome it.

That link doesn't seem to want to load. Just spins it's wheels. I'll try it again later.
Do you disagree with my statement then?
Anti-individualism, serving the nation - so nationalism. Now where have we seen that before.

right - moral control, economic freedom
libertarian - moral freedom, economic freedom
- fascism - moral control, economic control

Okay got it the link work and did the test, but ... it doesn't have just one dimension either, it has 7 dimensions!
I was labeled
cosmopolitan, secular, visionary, anarchistic, capitalistic, pacifist, and anthropocentric

Re: Off Topic: Your Political Orientation
Nationalism does not have to be anti-individualistic, nationalism is just wanting self-determination for your group. What is needed is a system that serves both the individual and the nation.Ms. Julie wrote:That link doesn't seem to want to load. Just spins it's wheels. I'll try it again later.

and I would add
- left - moral freedom, economic control
right - moral control, economic freedom
libertarian - moral freedom, economic freedom
In which case political leaning is not one-dimensional, but two. Islam is a type of fascism for example, wanting to control everything.
- fascism - moral control, economic control
Anti-individualism, serving the nation - so nationalism. Now where have we seen that before.
Also, I think your statement is an oversimplification. Many groups on the right support social freedom and some form of economic control, such as the French National Front. Leftists are generally against personal freedom as they want to censure dissenting opinion through political correctness and silencing their opponents. Pim Fortuyn dared to speak out against multiculturalism and a leftist shot him. Same thing probably would have happened to Le Pen if it weren't for the Département Protection et Sécurité.
I am also quite sure you are mixing up the definitions of totalitarianism and fascism.

Without going tooooo far down the rabbit-hole....
I'd lean more toward Libertarian, but I'd also hope that people would just tend to do the "right" thing....
And they often don't...
Which sways me a bit toward "some" moral control too... *good luck with that*
And not seeing a huge difference between Fascism, Totalitarianism, and Crony-Capitalism....
And speaking for my opinion of the US, it seems to me like we've gotten a whole lot more of any and all of those three in the last many years....
I suppose I'm somewhere between a Libertarian, and a Right-winger....left - moral freedom, economic control
right - moral control, economic freedom
libertarian - moral freedom, economic freedom
fascism - moral control, economic control

Re: Off Topic: Your Political Orientation
I think it does. Either the group comes 'first' or the individual does. I can't see having it both ways.Nationalism does not have to be anti-individualistic
I don't think so, but I'm happy to replace fascism with 'authoritarianism' if you prefer.I am also quite sure you are mixing up the definitions of totalitarianism and fascism.
Fascism - an authoritarian and nationalistic right-wing system of government and social organization.
Authoritarian - favoring or enforcing strict obedience to authority, especially that of the government, at the expense of personal freedom.
Totalitarianism - a political system in which the state holds total authority over the society and seeks to control all aspects of public and private life wherever possible.
It seems like fascism is just totalitarianism plus right-wing nationalism? Anyways I'll stick with authoritarianism as the most general form of "moral and economic control".
I find the left to be just as infuriating as you do, but to me, there are many groups obsessed with control and demanding the 'group be put first'. They just have different focus and agenda. The 'means' to their end is always the same though. Violent oppression.

Re: Off Topic: Your Political Orientation
Ok, I'll be honest, I'm not all that big into politics in that I know I don't have the necessary prior information to have a full debate, but based on my choices both in personal opinion and with the link to the test that was provided, I'm a democrat, and according to the test a Social Democrat, making me Center-left.
Here's the image showing it:
But, what do I know? I've only been on the planet 20 years.

Titan,
"A man who is not a socialist at age 20 has no heart. A man who is still a socialist at age 30 has no head." - Unknown (but often attributed to Winston Churchill and with many different versions).

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

Samuzo,
I love that quote. Historically though I would say that 'they' is most often the socialists themselves.
Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot, Kim Il Sung ...
