Now, first of all - I know how to hold the edge by slowing down considerably. It is a very pleasurable experience.

Well most of girls can hold themselves from my experience, same as they can have multiple orgasms. So I have never thought about it and accepted it as a difference between our bodies lol.. I would never manage to hold myself like that.
