CH Movie Rating System

Post by blondie88 »

I know this may have been touched upon before, but is there any way as a forum this could be implicated?

Just as a discussion it would be cool to hear everyones thoughts...

There are so many CH videos now that sometimes selecting one can be a daunting task! Especially if you are impatient and sometimes want to choose a video quickly (like me!). A rating system would help when selecting a video to watch, and may also act as an incentive to video producers... there could be different ratings for different genres or aspects (ie editing, girls, music, ending) and even perhaps some kind of voting system whereby there is an end of year award for each category.. Could be fun!

I would't want to make things too competitive or discourage video makers whose videos don't score so highly... but some kind of database with a rating system ala IMDB could be fun and also help to people when they are having trouble finding something that suits their personal tastes...

I'm sure there must be a fair way of doing this..... anyone have any thoughts...?

If developing a rating guide/system, before deciding on a particular solution, I'd urge everyone to think about the ways a rating system would be used and what problems/opportunities currently exist for a rating guide/system to serve. Rephrasing blondie88's proposal a bit, the rating system would:

(1) When users wish to select videos to watch, provide information that is relevant and useful towards making a choice.
(2) If a user is impatient and wants to choose a video quickly, the information provided could be quickly navigable and understandable.
(3) Act as an incentive to video producers by recognizing value in different genres or aspects of a work (e.g. editing, girls, music, ending).
(4) Act as an incentive to video producers through indications of popularity.
(5) Act as an incentive to video producers by informing and recognizing receipt of various accomplishments/awards.

Often discussions can be derailed by proposals of specific solutions ahead of any depth and discussion of the use cases and problems/opportunities that any solutions proposed should respond to. On that note:

What are other ways a rating system would be used and what problems/opportunities currently exist for a rating guide/system to serve?

Are there components that a solution may be informed by or incorporate that satisfy the uses and problems/opportunities raised? What are the strengths/weaknesses of the components towards the respective uses and problems/opportunities they would be intended to satisfy?
