Calling all CH video creators

Post by mlsx2 »

Hello everybody,
I was wondering if everyone would be willing to share all of the settings and techniques they use for the graphics of their CH videos. I would love to see the settings for beat meters, timers, scores (mindwarp bonus round), various texts, and other things like that. I am really curious about Frivolous' use of the bar above the meter that shows how much time is left in the current round. I understand if certain people want to keep some of their stuff private, but I think it will only help to improve the quality of of CH productions.
Thanks.

You should look at the tutorials thread for this kind of help, I haven't been there for a while now but I believe there is useful stuff there for beginners.

I struggled hard to create a beat-meter, without success.
I'm working with final cut, don't own a copy of After effects or a similar effect-program, so the Tutorial-videos are nothing for me.
I create beats by finding out bpm of the song, then I create beat-patterns via Metronomics HD. I tried to create something like a beat-meter in final cut with various text-crawls, but its very very hard to get it done properly so I decided to work without a visual indicator.

If you are using Final Cut, Apple would want you to use the program Motion to create effects like a stroke bar. I don't believe this could be done with a program like Final Cut or Sony Vegas unless you went frame by frame.

awesomex wrote:As thumper mentioned, the tutorials thread has a stack of great videos from Brewster..

basically following those videos is exactly what I've used for graphics and beat meters ect.

the only things I do quite differently, is on the audio side.. using FL studio which allows me to produce beat tracks in around 10 minutes for a round (as long as its a electronic tune with a set tempo)
awesomex,
Thanks for the info. I was referring more to the settings in After Effects like Displayed Samples, Maximum Height, Thickness, etc.. The numbers used for those settings or like how your stroke meter has a grayish-black, almost smokey haze in it like in your Fantasy Edition. Some people have a line in the middle of the meter. Some people have box or a colored box in the middle. That type of stuff.

Edit: I just realized that Brewster's tutorial says 'with gradient background'. :-D

ThumpeR11,
I totally didn't even think to post this in a different forum. I'm not exactly trying to figure out how to create the meter, as I've figured that out with the help of the tutorials. However, some authors beat meters have different looks to them graphically. Some people have a sort of countdown either with numeric timers or progress bars. I don't understand which options/settings are used to achieve these things. I really like the idea of some type of score that climbs for each beat that passes through the center of the meter. Thanks for the recommendation, though.

Just got motion, but its hard to understand. Maybe I'll get it done by myself. A tutorial on how-to-make-stroke-bar-in-motion would be highly appreciated and help to speed things up.....

I don't wanna imply that anything illegal is going anywhere... but I don't think it's far off if you imagine that outside of professional use, the majority of After Effects users don't actually "own" a copy of the software.
