Rate the last movie you saw

Post by JHChrist »

As I said in the 'what you listening to' thread, I think a more...diverse forum would encourage the lurkers (such as myself) to some extent, so, what was the last film you saw, and would you recommend it (and, yes, porn flicks count aswell)

So, what movie did you see last?

Vertigo - 7/10
I just couldn't get into this like I can other Hitchcock films, don't know why, I'll give it another try in the near future

Rise of the Footsoldier - 5/10
Seemed to be trying a bit too hard to be a Guy Ritchie film, but never sparked for me, always seemed to be missing a little something
I wish I was emo. Then I'd have a cute fringe and all the girls would love me.

I am glad you posted
instead of lurking around

I am not sure about Why one would share movies
on this site,
usually more of a dating site question (FYI: am NOT looking)

But hey! What the heck,
I saw: Don't mess with the Zohan
in theaters
funny and strange
Lot's of "in" jokes, unsure who outside mideast would get the Mariah Cary or Hackie Sack jokes.
I am not sure what was up with all the Hummas
The bits about making out with much older women- was very strange
Still I liked it.

Cheers

Basically...I did this, and the music one because they're the sort of threads that would get me posting, then, talking with people and creating different threads from there, as the mood takes me, these threads are more...gateways than interesting...y'know, make some friends or whatever before people find out your last sex was with an asparagus

Im liking these off-topic threads. This is a good place for it.

Last film I watched was Superbad. Thought it was actually a really good film. Didn't think I would enjoy it so much because nearly all the films I watch are horror but it had me laughing all the way through. Plus McLovin looks exactly like a guy I work with, so it amused me.

And a little extra film review:
The Piano Teacher
Has a really hot T&D scene in it... in the toilets. Check it out if you havent seen it!

If people don't want to talk about it, the thread will drop to the bottom of the page and die a quick death. If they do, it will be good for the forum. No harm done.

The last movie I saw was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and I give it a 7/10.

It's a fun movie with very large action sequences, my only problem with the movie was the amount of CGI they did. It's not that I don't like CGI; CGI's cool. We're pals. The only problem is that George Lucas and Stephen Speilburg were all like, we're only going to be minimal on the computer effects. Except when the movie starts rolling there are computer animated gophers. CGI gophers. For some reason. Eh. Still a fun movie, and it was worth seeing it with my old high school buddies.

My last movie was We own the night

I love gangster movies or cop thrillers. This one is great, because of the unique story 9/10

American Gangster My movie of the year 2007: http://www.americangangster.net/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0765429/

Denzel Washington is one of my favorite actors and the movie is based on a true story. Russel Crowe is also one of the best character actors. My fascination about gangster movies has some reasons:

-Robert de Niro
-no bad jokes, if there is a joke you can laugh your ass off
-very deep stories
-the variety of the most movies, means you get everything in one movie: love, sex, crime, friendship, action, story, ups and downs.
-the flair, means the music the clothes and the places, the attitude of the actors, to show people how they are: not perfect with a evil side
-it's about the streets not about the Wall Street
Try or die

I watched Hot Fuzz and I rate it a 9/10. I would have rated it a 9.5/10 but once you start playing the decimal game in review scores, only madness awaits.

One interesting thing to note is that the movie is supposed to be an action satire.

Tangent alert!
I say satire as opposed to parody because when people think of the word parody in connection with movies they think that the movie is going to be mimicking movies of the same type, and expect to see references to their favorite (insert genre here) films. The recent Scary Movie flicks are good examples.

That said, the film doesn't remember the fact that it's supposed to be an action satire until a long ways into the film. Up until that point, when Sergeant Nicholas Angel takes up arms against the evil doers once and for all, up until then the movie plays out quite similar to that of a scary movie, albeit a funny scary movie where people die in horrific and violent manner.

It also takes a lot of time establishing all the bad guys which separates it from a lot of action films. Most action movies give you a lot of information about the villain/villains in charge and then force the hero to shoot his way through nameless hoodlums/thugs/terrorists/nazi's as if the hero had somehow jumped into an alternate reality where he was starring in a video game that had gotten itself a hard on trying to see how many bullets it can shoot at and miss/hit the hero without the hero meeting a sudden and untimely end ten minutes into the plot.

That said, I recommend Hot Fuzz.

Angel: The little hand says it's time to rock and roll.
Butterman: Bring on the noise!

P.S. A person duly noted that this is a web site primarily dealing with the affairs of teasing and denial, and note per say favorite movies. To that person I state this. If you look at the top part of your computer screen while you are observing this thread you will notice text reading:

This is: Forum Index > General > All and Everything

Now an astute observer would mention that the colors of the text I present and the text that is listed above happen to be completely different, this same observer would also remark that a thread discussing the last movie people see happens to fall under the category of "All and Everything." And if that's not enough of a bitch slap to the person who duly notes web sites that digress from their proper material, then I present you with this link. It is a very bad and very annoying song that ends with a Rick Roll. If anyone is out there, exploring the internet without a clue as to what a Rick Roll is, please do not click this link. Maintain your innocence.

I watched Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and I give it an 8 out of 10.

Interesting notes:
You will either never, or on rare occasion, find a series of movies with a cohesive overall storyline have so many different directors. The first two were directed by Christopher Columbus, the third by Alfonso Cuaron, the fourth by Mike Newell and this installment by David Yates. Each director has their own style, and the Harry Potter series makes for an interesting look at how style changes from one director to the next.

I remember a few people saying that they'd never be able to pull off all seven books because the kids would get too old too fast. Well, the simple answer as to why they'd be able to succeed: Harry Potter equals cash. The studios want the money, the parents want their children occupied. And possibly reading.

If you happen to be new to Harry Potter, ideally I'd say start from book one, keep going until you reach book seven and when you finish it you can stop. That said, if you want the back story I'd start with the first movie, because none of the movies really spend a spare minute in reminding you of character motivations, plot devices and what spell does what.

Favorite Quote:
Harry Potter: Hey Big D. Beat up another 10 year old?
Dudley Dursley: This one deserved it.

In my journey to watch every movie based on a comic book, graphic novel or video game, I watched V for Vendetta and gave it a thumbs up. (Thumbs are easier than rating scales. Does 8/10 mean it was liked, or does 7/10? And does 6/10 approach disliking, or is that closer to mediocrity? Is there a bell curve in your ratings system?)

Things to note:
Once you're done watching the film, here is a question that can be discussed. What is the difference between a terrorist and a freedom fighter?
