Question about grammar in Teases
I know that there are a lot of people here at Milovana who come from non-English speaking countries. I've noticed that this is reflected in some of the Teases here. I also understand that English is a complicated language to learn and I know that if it was not my first language, I would have much trouble with it.
There are many exceptions and contradictions of rules in the English language:
Many words that sound the same out loud have different spellings when written: you're/your, red/read (past tense) are a couple of examples.
There are also words that are spelled the same, but pronounced differently: read (present tense)/read (past tense).
This is confusing enough for people who are exposed to it on a daily basis and even more so for those who have learned English as a secondary language.
My question is:
How receptive are those who write Teases to help/suggestions/criticism when it comes to the grammar content?
I do not wish to hurt anyone's feelings, but some of the grammar and spelling in the Teases could be much improved upon to make it readable/enjoyable.
I will not use any examples, out of kindness, but I've read a couple of Teases here today that were, even being polite about it, almost unreadable. I know that it takes a lot of time and effort to create a Tease, so I don't know if authors might get upset if the grammar/spelling errors are pointed out or not.
Again, I understand that it is difficult and I don't wish to upset anyone. That's why I'm asking.

Re: Question about grammar in Teases
You know.. the people who write teases aren't "one entity" and as such you cannot ask a general question like that.
How much a person is willing to accept constructive criticism is entirely up to that single person.
I'm sure that most people wouldn't be offended if you are polite about it though.

Re: Question about grammar in Teases
When writing a tease I have always opened the site http://www.dict.cc to look up spelling, translations, phrases and so on. I try my best to avoid spelling or grammatical errors, cause I know that one word can destroy the whole atmosphere.
Of course that takes a lot of time, but it's worth it.

I have posted several grammar and spelling programs, apps and web sites in the suggestions forum.

Re: Question about grammar in Teases
I think most people are open to help, but often the problem is finding people with time to assist.
The main culprit is the lack of embedded spelling tools in the editors used for writing teases. Copy and paste into other spelling aids is enough of an obstacle for most people not to bother.
And as a side note, in my experience, the majority of the basic mistakes are in fact made by native English speakers.

Yes, I most certainly CAN do it again!
Re: Question about grammar in Teases
Yeah, bad grammar and spelling in teases is usually very distracting, often enough for me to just exit a tease. But I feel it's usually reflected in the ratings so it's easy to avoid.
I always use word to write the scripts, excel for the code and then copy paste into nyx.

I welcome feedback, suggestions, & criticism. You can send a person feedback via pm to avoid publicly calling them out/getting them on the defensive.

Re: Question about grammar in Teases
Never criticize others grammar in a Tease.
For over two thirds of English speakers world wide it is a second language,
and a damn hard one even for native speakers.
I offer assistance to those who ask, be glad to preview a tease for grammar.
I welcome those who TRY.
No such thing as a bad tease, merely unwritten ones.

That site is excellent, I had to sit through German classes in high schoolVenus wrote:When writing a tease I have always opened the site http://www.dict.cc to look up spelling, translations, phrases and so on. Re: Question about grammar in Teases
I can somewhat speak another language, so I understand how difficult that it can be to express something in another tongue. I wouldn't want anyone to feel bad for any reason and I wasn't sure how most people would react to input like that.
I did some corrections for someone who asked not long ago, but I wasn't sure about people who don't ask directly for help. Do they want it? Are they afraid to ask for it? Would they get upset? I don't spend enough time here to know these things.
Thanks for the replies both above and any that come below. :)

Re: Question about grammar in Teases
I just read this tease:
http://www.milovana.com/webteases/showt ... =19735&p=1
Absolutely horrid grammar.
If anyone needs help, I would be willing to proof read.

Re: Question about grammar in Teases
Both sides present a fair argument. Some teases are very difficult to read through to completion. If you're struggling to overlook the issues, don't read it. I've hit some grammatical speedbumps during my teasing sessions. Sure it is distracting to read, re-read, and read again a line describing how to stroke myself. Realistically, if it ruins your ability to enjoy a tease, pick a new one. I've written a handful of teases, and I believe myself to be fairly articulate. My grammar is usually pretty good. To this day, when I go back through my past teases for inspiration, I still find punctuation, spelling, and grammar problems. I edit them when I find them, but not everybody edits their teases in post.
I guess what I'm trying to say is simple. Follow a tease only as far as the critical part of your mind will allow. If you get too frustrated, note the author, and try to avoid teases written by that person. If that still isn't enough, try watching porn. Sure it's less creative and interactive, but you don't have to read a thing.
