Since it seems that back on page 10 or so we were briefly posting actual art, I can't resist offering the following.
It's an English Pre-Raphaelite painting, The Depths of the Sea, by Edward Burne-Jones, about 1881. I absolutely love this thing! And not just because Miss Shell has a mermaid avatar (although... *slaps self in face* Focus, froodly!). I've loved this painting for years.

- First, there's the intensity of it. She's caught this man, and will under no circumstances let go. The sheer level of passion and desire involved is striking.
- The expression on her face is riveting: the direct eye contact, the half-smile, ... urrrrrr...
- Then there's the whole drowning thing going on: he may be dead or dying, but the situation suggests that even in death, he is loved and perhaps will find a loving relationship in post-mortal existence.
