Maintenance: Upgrade to Eos Media Database

Post by seraph0x »

Edit: A few posts further down you'll find a translation of this announcement into plain English.

Today, I've uploaded a patch to Milovana's TIMG file system backend. Newly uploaded files in Nyx will now be automatically added to the new Eos Media Database as well. I'm also converting all existing Nyx teases to support the new database format. After the conversion, which will take approximately 5-10 days, we will switch the FlashTease viewer over to the new database. Afterwards the old database will be turned off.

This change lays the groundwork for Eos' advanced media management features that we will be launching over time after Eos comes out. For example, you will be able to use images from your Nyx teases in Eos teases without having to reupload them.

The public launch of Eos is still a ways away, but this is the last major infrastructural change before I can release the Eos visual editor to our beta testers.

This is another big change to our system, so if you run into any problems, please do report them.

Thanks!
:-)

This is all nonsense to me as I don't know much about computers, would someone be able to translate it into English? Mostly, I'm wondering if that means that we will be losing all the classic style teases? please let me know.

It's a very easy two step process:

1. Lower your expectations regarding software quality.
2. Send me a PM.

In plain English: We're doing some big changes behind the scenes now so we can add some major new features in a few months. :-)

None of the existing teases or features will be affected. Eos will simply be a third way to create teases.

I'm happy to report, the conversion is complete. I'll probably have to go over it a bunch still to fix any stragglers. But the bulk of it is done.
