About filehosts, what's wrong with the mediafire? In my opinion it's currently the best filehoster available. All the others have numerous captcha bullshits fields, they have download speed capped and so on.. But I just can't find anything wrong with mediafire. I max. my download speed (100Mbps) almost everytime when downloading from mediafire

So mirrors could be good but for god sake, lets use mediafire in future also?

About zips and rars well.. I guess only reason why teases are in rars is that it's easier to just extract inside designated folder than downloading all the files ony by one I personally prefer rars over zips as zip files just randomly seems to have plenty of problems with extracting.. Don't know what but I'm really not intrested fighting with simple job which should happen by one-two klicks

I have no problems with mediafire but I have a free account.
ifile.it works for me as well I also have a free account.
Zip, 7zip, or rar all work fine.

Finally, someone who recognizes that zip files can be opened by any computer. Playboy, Met-art and dozens of other high end sites utilize zip files. Why? Everybody can use them without having to download anything!

A lot of people are compressing files with RAR. ZIP is more standard and works on all platforms.

I hate to feed the troll here, but what you are saying is simply incorrect. On all accounts too.

1: Zip is not natively supported in most operating systems, the later versions of windows are exceptions.

2: Not using a compression which is natively supported is a good idea in the first place, since natively supported compressions suffer from the same potential security hazards as an executable file does (in short it's a lot easier to embed a virus and have it executed on your comp in a compressed file which your OS automatically decompresses)

3: RAR is by far the most used compression format on the net these days and have been for the last several years.

4: The discussion of platforms is pretty moot anyway as long as TeaseMe afaik is supported on windows only. This far at least.

5: If you have time to download tease content for teaseme, you have time to grab a decompression tool too - writing this post took you a LOT longer than the work involved with handling other compression formats than zip

I think you are coming across far more combative than you intend.
The main reason for using zip or rar is that you only need to download one file plus it contains the directory structure as well so people don't need to work out where files go.

Whether zip or rar is used is a matter of personal preference (and tends to be the one you have historically used rather than it being better than the others).

There is nothing to stop anyone extracting, re-compressing and hosting in another format as long as you don't claim the content as your own.

"Please can people provide a zip file as well as a rar file.
I suspect most non technical windows users will find zip files easier and tease me is a windows program"

(If there is enough interest, I would look at doing a linux port of tease me, most of the code in the android version would work, but I suspect the number of people who would use it would be tiny)

In terms of talking about OSes (plural) I tend to think of the family of windows as one, vs. linuxes, unixes, different Mac OSes etc as others. We are not debating whether or not windows (in various versions) is the most common. Of course it is. However you are still wrong in your assumption that all windows OSes have native support for zip. That is in fact more recent than you seem aware of - zip has been supported by windows explorer from and including Vista. Which means there is a grand total of two windows versions out there supporting zip without the use of third party software. (or three if you count the not quite there yet Windows 8)

2:
Compression is usually more about gathering many files into a single file for easier handling when sharing on the net. In some cases compression is a topic as well, but as you say, for most videos and images, the content is compressed anyway. Not necessarily though, jpeg supports loss-less compression, which means better image quality, but less or no compression at all. In those cases, using zip, rar or other compression tools will actually compress the data a lot. Usually not the case tho, it's most of all a many-to-one file thing.

Fact, not opinion. Rar is far more used than zip has been for years. Yes, most of that is from various file sharing uses, but that IS the vast majority of traffic on the net these days anyway. The fact that zip is still used by a large number of sites, that doesn't change the fact that there are a lot, lot MORE sites that use rar. And a moot point anyway since virtually any compression tool these days supporting one compression format will support the other anyway.

Yes, pretty much all uses windows, and no, that does NOT mean they necessarily can decompress zip archives.

2) You still didn't tell me how many mb you will save in one of these little folders of images. Why, if you are working with such little files to begin with must it be compressed at all. It is strictly for those who need archiving structure on their own machines or sites. In my case and many others it isn't needed. It is like compressing images into a rar file to send your friend a couple pictures in an email.

Go back and read my last on this one - I agreed with you that compression for sake of saving space is rarely the point here. The point is to gather numerous small (or large) files into a single item to handle. Which is a big point when we're talking about 10+ files.

3: I didn't say rar has won anything at all. I merely pointed out the fact that they are currently (and has been for a while) the most used format and therefore nothing you or anyone else should consider alien.

4) The most common windows is still XP. Believe it or not. Obviously a fact that will change sooner or later, but still fact as of today.


Again, this is no war for me - it's not about rar being better or worse than zip. I'm just pointing out the numerous flaws in your arguments as to why rar should not be used (which was the point you were trying to make, right?)

Now, seriously, no more from me on this - you have derailed this thread plenty as it is, but here are the two things to remember from this lame tirade:

1: Archiving sets of files for sharing with others is necessary - regardless of whether compression itself is an issue. It's massively impractical to share sets of 10+ files without bundling them in one way or another.

2: And, IMnotatalhumbleO: If you can't be arsed to spend two bloody minutes bothering to grab a decompression tool for your downloaded content (which is needed for a lot of other purposes than just here on milo anyway), you frankly have no reason to complain. Why should the author be expected to support a format that suits YOU when he instead can support a format that suits most others perfectly?

Enough already. If this doesn't end here, someone needs to moderate this or create another thread for dev/take so we can have an on-topic thread for teaseme without these discussions (which I am very much quilty of contributing to, I know)

On that subject, a more official sticky, or even a separate subforum would been great imo. That would also allow us to separate technical support / development from the actual tease content / download threads etc, much like we already have for video teases.
