Bash the newbie? You go on about how you have been a member here longer than others and now you are a newbie? Take a look back at your other posts. Every single one of them contains at least one bash of other people.

Apparently you haven't been in chat much over the last few months. There have been a LOT of problems with the flashchat. It has been down far too often to be considered a functional piece of software. It may work for other places, but was becoming too much of a pain in the ass to be kept here. The reasoning behind the switch was to provide a more stable chatroom. Yes the current state of the replacement is a bit dull and drab compared to its predecessor, but it is not a finished product yet.

If you are going to talk shit to people you should expect others to defend them. If what comes in response to you talking shit offends you so much perhaps you shouldn't be talking shit to other people in the first place.

i might if anyone wanted to actually discuss anything rather than jumping on the bandwagon of lets bash the newbie. all i see is a clique of people who defend each other without actually addressing anything.

There is no clique of people, no cabal of wrong doers and no illuminati conspiracy "bashing the newbie."

At the end of the day, the current move is being made so we can have a stable, working chat system here. Outside of the "whisper" functionality, the two software packages we'll be using provide all the functionality we had in 123flashchat, and a lot more. And at the end of the day, at least to me, that's what matters, having a stable working chat system here, regardless of what that system may be.

See Turtle already gave a reason why. You are entitled to disagree with his and seraphox' reasons for this, but at the end of the day, flashchat just isn't working out for Milo.

You seem to have a fair bit of knowledge about the site, going back to long before I was a member, including a knowledge of all the previous chat versions and members who have long since disappeared into the annals of myth and legend.

You also seem to be under the mistaken belief that gender orientation has anything to do with biological sexuality. But that is a debate for another time.

If you genuinely want to make the site better, feel free to make some interesting forum posts. Its clear you have an interest in the site, and have a mind for debating, so put them both to good use instead of wasting time debating a decision that has already been made. If anyone can pull a rabbit out of his hat and make chat awesome again it's the Ninja Turtle. So chill out and don't worry.

No IRC isn't being considered. The current chat software is going to be an XMPP server you can log into via the chat link at the top of Milovana or an XMPP client of your choosing.

One thing I wanted to ask about Turtle was the logs. Will we still be able to access them? and if so can we have a link please. Call me sad, but I used to like reading them in the morning.

We did work on implementing a IRC-based chat before we settled on 123flashchat (the chat we had for the last couple of years.) The problem with IRC was that there weren't any good web-based clients. The user integration was a total pain, authentication in IRC is usually done via bots so you just ended up with a lot of complexity very quickly.

So if you ask me today to compare the two, IRC is a pretty old protocol which means it's very robust, but a lot of features have been "tacked on" over time, so it's a bit awkward at times. I would use it if I was looking to build a large scale chat network. IRC scales well thanks to its multicast distribution layer.

XMPP on the other hand is leaner and more lightweight for running a small chatroom like we're doing. It's also better as a backend for a webchat, with built-in browser API support, more web-based client choices and a powerful presence API. That allows for some exciting possibilities in the long run, for example we could integrate it with the forum and have a facebook-esque instant messaging system.

Orgasmdenial is running their chat on their main server, so it shares its resources with the rest of the site. So I assume our problems with the chat were related to the fact that we ran it on a relatively tiny separate server.

Why did we run it on a separate server? Because the software was obviously of very poor quality - it contains countless basic programming errors, so it almost certainly contains exploitable security flaws. Because our main server contains user data like private messages and email addresses, I absolutely did not want to risk running the chat software on the same system.

Why did it run well originally and later get worse? God only knows. It was running fine, then it started having problems. Maybe one of our admins changed a setting or a log file got too big or maybe a user did something that triggered a bug in the chat software. We tried moving it to another server, but it didn't help at all.

If the problem was a tiny server, why didn't we get a bigger one? That's simply a matter of budget. The chat isn't used by that many people and although servers may not cost that much, 29$/month is still real money. The chat doesn't generate any revenue and the rest of the site is already operating at a deficit, so whatever the chat costs is money that I have to cough up.

The new chat server runs without the faintest hint of a problem on a 5$/month server, so once we get the client looking a bit nicer, with a bit more features, it should be all good.

I understand that from your perspective it looks like a downgrade, it's like a car with no doors and no paint job, but believe me, the engine went from a repurposed lawnmower to a state-of-the-art Mercedes. And we're pretty handy, we can add some doors.

Sure... there is a clique and please tell me, what is wrong or unnatural with that. People talk with peiple they know and like. It is never easy to get into a community, but is it impossible? No it´s not. I had the same problems at the beginning, but i managed to change this.

To the second part... i don´t see why an admin should reply on this. Your post has nothing to do with the topic, neither this has anything to do with Jens quality as an admin. So an answer from the office is not really necessary.

it wasnt so much an attack as a question of blatant misrepresentation by someone whos supposed to be trustworthy and dependable. if you cant trust him/her to be who him/her is, then how can you trust anything he/she represents? to me its just another indication of how the dominant women on this site are catered to, apprently even by admins. whether they actually are dominant women or not. in a world where perception is paramount how can you believe the actions of an administrator are honorable when they blatantly misrepresent themselves and who they claim to be. they are deceiving every single person who comes in and talks to them, even down to the profile page. the admissions of who jen really is are hidden among the chaff which is probaly what he was going for when he admitted it. he can claim honorable intentions saying i was up front about it while the majority of the people remain blissfully ignorant.

does it make him a bad admin? no. does it make him dishonest? you bet. and to that, i most wholeheartedly think that a response from the admin is justified. leaders should be held to a higher standard.
