Altering Voices With Audacity or Other Software

Post by Stair_Car »

So I've been playing around with different voices in audacity, trying to turn female voices into males, and males into females. If I can get it to work, it would be really useful for webteases, but alas, it's not working at all. I've found plenty of tutorials, but they all say the same thing: adjust the pitch up or down 10-20 percent. But this almost never works. There must be more to it than just pitch.

Has anybody got any advice or experience concerning this sort of thing?

Audacity isn't designed to change voices, it's a music recording program. The pitch setting only allows you tune your voice to the music. For example you've sung your lyrics off key, the pitch setting will change it so your lyrics will be in tune with the music. You can also add effects such as phase shifting, wah wah, reverb but that's about it.

I downloaded the MorphVox Jr. It's a trial version. The woman's voice didn't sound all that realistic and to get the features you need you have to buy the Pro Version which is about $40 (30 EUR).

I've also tried the Voice Changer Diamond 7.0 from Audio4fun. I didn't have much success with it. You might have better success.

The best solution I've found so far, and it's not a very good one, is to use a text to speech program with a woman's voice you like. The drawback is you'll probably have to purchase it and it will probably cost you about $30 (22 EUR). Additional voices will cost $25-$35 (19-26 EUR). I used a text to speech program called Text Aloud 3 on my last RoboMistress tease.

A text-to-speech program would be unacceptable, because it's still obviously a fake voice. I hate teases where the voice sounds like a robot (no offense).

However, I did find a way to kind of get a voice feminized. Not only did I change the pitch, but I used a visual equalization curve to narrow the range of note being spoken. Even on my baritone, it works well enough to fool someone who isn't listening for the trick. I would love to start making teases with this if I can perfect it further.

OK, time for a test run. Someone please upload an audio file of a male voice to adfly or whatever website you wish. I will download it and try to feminize it as best I can. It will be good practice for me, and it will probably be fun for you to see the result, as well. Try to speak for at least 10 seconds in a clear voice.

With the Ivona program you have to buy the reader in order to convert it into a file. That reader is 129 EUR ($167)

http://www.ivona.com/en/studio/

The Site Pal program doesn't have mp3 conversion file capability. At least I couldn't find it.

The ispeech link is a developer site. It's designed primarily for apps.
https://www.ispeech.org/developers

In order to use the software you have to obtain a pass key. Also according to the site it costs between $.05 and 0.00001 per word converted or recognized depending on quantity

Hope that helps.

http://vozme.com/index.php?lang=en

http://www.yakitome.com/

Both are free

The first site is Voz Me (www.vozme.com). This really is very simple to use, and requires no sign-up or registration. Type or paste some text into the box on the front page, choose whether you want a male or female voice, then click the Create MP3 button. That's all there is to it. The conversion takes just seconds, at which point the file starts playing. There's also a download link, to save your MP3 file.j

The second recommended site is Yakitome (www.yakitome.com). Unlike VozMe, Yakitome requires you to set up an account by specifying an email address, username and password. Once you've done that, the site is free to use, and works in a similar way to VozMe. Type or paste your text, click the button, and wait. For some reason, Yakitome takes much longer to do the conversion (typically a few minutes), and there's a handy countdown timer to tell you how long it'll be before your file starts playing. Cynics might wonder whether the delay is deliberately introduced to give you time to read the adverts on the page!

Once the file starts playing, right-click the green document-like icon to download it.

So, which of these services is my favourite? Ultimately, regardless of usability and time delays, the only thing that counts with such a service is the voice quality. And for that, Yakitome wins hands-down.

Yes, I realize that text-to-speech programs exist. But they are all terrible. You can always tell that it's fake. I absolutely hate robovoice teases.
