I don't know details about -this- special board, but elsewhere there is a main difference between mods and admins: mods don't have access to the admin panel. Mods are usually people who can split topics and delete messages of other users. Not much more.

Speaking of the topic, I didn't quiet understand, did he mean the number of registered forum users or site visitors overall?

I think Milovana is growing in peeps. Spammers create multiple accounts, and so do Bots. Often times, legit users create multiples, due to forgetting passwords etc. I would bet that less than 1/10 of facebook accounts are real.

I have 2 accounts on here and it was because I forgot the password, not only to here but the password the old email address I had at the time.

But I finally remembered it and started using my old login again. I don't think I've used that old login in about a year or so...

You're assuming (incorrectly) that the growth is actually new members, and not 1001 "dummy" accounts. Considering that many users here have more than one username, the stats are flawed. I don't think Seraph keeps that in mind when touting his stats about growth. If its the same people creating more user accounts, then the site isn't growing, its faltering.

The stats I was quoting are from our awstats system. The main number I look at is daily unique visitors and it indeed has grown every month like clockwork. Also, I wasn't "touting stats" - I pretty much mentioned stats twice in the last half year. Once in a PM to Jenifer commending her for doing a good job running the chat and the other in a private chat with jp. From what I understand, both times my statements have found their way into the public (without asking me for permission I might add.) I suppose I have to start considering everything I say on the record.

But since the cat is out of the bag and since I now have to defend myself against Indy's denunciations, here is the long-term chart from Google Analytics:



Finally, please note that people saying Milovana is going downhill has a long tradition in its own right. Pretty much since early 2008 it has been pronounced by one person or another that the quality of teases is declining. So please understand that I've come to take such claims with a grain of salt over the years.

As a maintainer of a few forums, I must say that the quantity and expertise of spammer targeting PHPBB grown quite a lot in the last few months.
IP address is useless.

We have at least 2 good signs of the growing popularity of Milovana : teases quantity, forum messages quantity.

It's probably not the goal to simulate growth on the site. I'm absolutely sure that there's other motivations. But you're a Mod, you can check the IP addresses, and the accounts that are tied ... I'd bet my left arm that there's users out there with a few usernames.

1: IP is not the same as a person. In fact, there are any number of reasons why that tie can not be made, and fortunately the legal system, at least in my own country, is finally getting to terms with this simple fact. The most basic example being ANY open, free W-LAN, as well as dormitories and companies where a lot of people access the net from a single IP address. So forget using IP as an indication of anything at all. It simply is not useful, as temping as it might be. It doesn't even serve the purpose of a physical address, since it can easily be spoofed/faked

2: If several people from the same IP has multiple accounts, why should that count any less?

Sera: No apology needed - if you feel attacked, rightfully or not, you should feel free to "defend yourself", whether it's actually needed or not.

Also, regarding the topic of growth, how interesting is it really? For my own part, the far more interesting metric is the quality of teases. Which has had a bit of a low for the last few months. 1885 was a breath of fresh air, but frankly, no offense to anyone (really I mean that!), the quality of flash teases (being the only part I'm personally interested in) has dropped quite bad lately. There are a few happy exceptions, but the frequency of good teases has been lower lately. I'm sure it will pick back up though, these things tend to come and go in waves - some periods being great, some less so.

Meanwhile, what? Everquest is dying, shit, no wonder Sony (I'm too embarrassed to say) did me over well on that one. At least I escaped WOW without the the same hassle. Sigh, I miss a good RP.
