What makes a tease.....

Post by Mistress Jenifer »

Good?

I have seen some now pop up that are absolutely amazing and end up with as clise to a five star rating as possible. But others using the same set of ideas end up giant flops....

So I am curious what general concepts when put together make a tease great.....

Well, to begin with, I can tell by Page 1 of a tease if it's even worth continuing for me.

Apart from the theme (ie, things that turn me on) I look for proper spelling and grammar, along with a good narrative framework and structure in terms of the tease itself is what works best for me.

Yes we all make typos now and then, but "cum her and jerk 100 times now dickiboy becaus you are my slave now and don't forget that I own your pethetic ass" doesn't do anything for me. Neither does a tease that just says something like "beet your balls 100x now and click continue." HUH? (hypothetical examples only)

If the tease comes across as "believable" in how it reads/flows, then yes, I give it high marks. If it comes across as thrown together, not proofread, or such, I will most likely quit reading on Page 1.

Call me a wonky academic but that's what works for me.

It's a bit hard to pin down exactly what makes a good tease, but here's an attempt anyway:

1) Proper spelling and grammar. No one wants to be topped by someone that sounds like a grunting sub-human. "u do 10 edgs 4 me boi" is an instant turn off.

2) a detailed plot isn't necessary, but a semblance of one is. "Do 10 edges" "now do 10 more" "now slap your balls" makes it kind of hard to get into it. I'm doing a tease, not reading a recipe.

3) Detailed descriptions in general are a good idea. Explaining exactly what needs to be done makes it possible to complete the tease successfully - don't punish me for not kneeling when you didn't make it clear I was supposed to on the previous page.

4) While details are good, overcomplication isn't. I don't want to have to go on a scavenger hunt for 20+ items just to start the tease. And no way am I going to go get something odd, like a frying pan.

5) Finding the right pictures sets the right mood. They should reflect what's happening in the tease; don't have a picture of a woman lying on a bed with her legs in the air if the instructions say to kneel. She should be standing, or at least sitting with a dominant posture.

Continuity in pictures so the "Model" does not seem to be clothed then undressed every other picture
or constantly changing wardrobe without reason.
Red dress, yellow bikini naked, blue dress etc is no good.
Neither constantly changing picture sizes

Grammar is extremely important, and how the different components of the tease is spaced is also. I don't want to edge 20 times in one page, and then read a wall of text with no teases on the next. Also if something has too many toys or stuff that you don't have lying around the house, it makes it difficult to get into.

And personally, I can't get off to any ugly or fat females. It's so hard to do a task for a woman you don't want sexually.

Hmm...
Seems my first falls into many of the good things listed here, granted there were some spelling errors in various points.

Keep the comments coming though!
I'm hoping to make a few more teases, hence looking for what to do and not to do.

Hard to explain, and highly a matter of personal taste as well I guess, but here are a few key factors for me anyway:

1. Craftsmanship
The author should evidently have made a solid effort when writing the tease. Usually this is evident in the form of good spelling/grammar, good dialogue, and a lack of cheap shortcuts.

2. Originality/inventiveness
The best authors are those who combine excellent craftsmanship with being highly inventive. Despite the basic fact that the basic elements of most teases are the same few as we have always had (stroking/edging/holding/ruining/cumming), some authors manage to put the very same elements into new wrappings and new systems, combined with good dialogue, that makes it feel completely new and radical. That's a real art, and one that few authors master.

3. Avoiding boredom
A tease can be excessively repetitive yet constantly fun. At the same time, another tease can be a long story without a single repeated element, yet boring as hell. A good tease needs to keep me massively aroused and interested 100% of the time, even if it is for hours! A few teases manage that, even after having run through it 500 times - most teases don't.

4. Series = win
While making a themed series is in no way a cheap way to success and fame, often authors seem to put in more creative effort into series than stand-alone teases. My perception anyway, true or not. As a consequence, series tend to hold slightly higher average quality.

5. It's gotta be a flash or video tease
Classic teases where I get to (and have to) click my way from one page to the next simply don't work for me. I should not have that amount of control, and contrary to flash teases, classic teases don't not have the ability to surprise me. I know this is very much a matter of taste though - I know many people feel the exact opposite about this.

My 2 cents (or 467 cents more precisely)
Yes, I most certainly CAN do it again!

That's a very subjective question, but essentially what really makes a tease stand out to me comes down to three words.

Story. Story. Story.

That's what makes a tease so different from just looking at pictures.

To make a good story, you've got to know how to write. That's vocabulary, spelling, grammar and knowing how to establish a plot line. You don't HAVE to have a plot or a lot of vocabulary to make a decent tease, but as others have said, if you don't have good spelling or adequate grammar capabilities, it's a distraction.

Grammar is up there, but it's not as hard-and-fast a rule as some think it is (apologies to my 7th grade teacher).

To a certain extent, grammar is subjective; unlike say, arithmetic. A misplaced comma can be a distraction, such as "The dog ran down the, street." I suppose I'd rather have no comma than a misplaced one.

Some say not to use a conjunction to start a sentence. But, for me (and I dare say, many professional authors), it's okay to do so.

I've seen rules differ from grammar book to grammar book, and some errors bother some people more than others (one of mine is using "could of" instead of "could have"), but overall it's usually going to be okay if it's somewhere in the ballpark (the further from left field the better).

But yeah, the best teases have a storyline. The more intricate the story, the better the tease.

*takes notes*

BTW;
Sort of on topic question;
Is there any site out there that will show only the photo shoots someone has? The site I use shows a lot of links but 60-80% of them end up being videos and repeats of photo shoots & videos from earlier pages. It gets annoying when you stumble on someone who looks good and has a lot of links, only to learn a lot of those links lead to videos or to photo-shoots that were done during a scene for a video... Thus not that great for tease use -.-

I disagree. Video teases are great (CH series), but I've grown to dislike the flash teases. Pictures turn out real crappy in them. Classic teases have 100000000000000000x better quality pictures.

Other things which make a tease great: the visuals. Eye contact with the girl(s). Girl(s) who look intelligent and having fun, rather than the usual bimbo-ish super made up porn girls.

IF you're making a flash-tease (which i prefer, personally cannot get into classic-style teases) then use the features available.... by this i mean it shouldn't just be a 'continue onto next page butt' on every page, and try not to use links unless they add something to the plot (because they're a pain the arse). Also, use sound where you can as that's much more exciting than "stroke twice per-second and here is a timer for you". Additionally, as i've said MANY times if you get a chance to, then colour the text on the buttons.

These things may seem small, but a tease that use non of the above i.e. is completely linear, has no beats, has lots of links, and uses only one hard-to-read button on each page tends not to be enjoyable for me.

just my opinion

for me it's:
1) the tasks I like (no CBT or anything too weird)
2) The attitude of a girl I like - hate bitches with dirty tongues or humiliation themes
3) A good set of pictures that features attractive girl and matches the story.
4) not too much text.

In my campaign for non-flash teases, sounds can be obtained by using online metronomes. And there are free stopwatch apps on computers.

Hmm.

For the flash teases specifically, is there a general rule of thumb for the timers? I know a lot of people tend to complain when the timer is something like 5+ minutes, so is there a general length that is accepted by most?

I prefer the you have so long to do something press before time runs out.
If you are using long timers please have the pictures change

also I like the press to proceed so strategic pauses can be taken.
We can't all commit unlimited time to complete.

finally on very long teases have the facility to have save points.
