Suggestion for tagging teases

Do you think Milovana.com is perfect in every way? Hopefully not, so what can we do to improve? Every idea, suggestion or criticism is highly appreciated.

The Secret Project has been and gone. Wake up and smell the roses. The current 1st page of webteases contains 1 flash tease, and umpteen original style. Hence the project was a dud. Lets not try to coat it in sugar and pretend that it was a hit.
Like seraph0x said, your opinion was valid, but your tone wasn't friendly. I think that if it had been, people might be focusing more on your opinion than the way you expressed it. Of course, you probably think that nobody would listen if you didn't say it the way you did, but it's only a matter of perspective. Everybody's distracted by how you said it, rather than what you said. I don't think that's what you wanted.

About the flash teases, well I and I'd think others as well, are waiting for the next version of Nyx to be released. There are certain bugs some of us are waiting to be fixed, such as being able to edit a vast quantity of pages at one time, and additional small changes that would just make editing much more efficient and flexible. Also, flash teases are something special, not just any user has the technical knowledge and will to learn how to use the editor and do it effective. So of course, there will always be more traditional teases than flash teases.

Anyways there was some discussion already on saving teases but it didn't get too much attention. I said some of what I thought there, but I'll say some more. Saraph0x asked for more feedback anyways, so here's my opinion. I think adding bookmarks would be a good, and easy, addition to the site. There's a reason that websites such as youtube, facebook, personals, shopping sites, and everything else have their own form internal favorites.

The largest reason for having internal favorites I feel is the way in which you view them. It'd be so much more conventional to go to Milovana, click the favorites button, and see a list of the teases you'd like to revisit. A browser simply gives you a list of teases with the only description being the title of the page. When I look through teases, it is very important to see the picture as the title is only half of how you remember a tease's content - the picture, of course, is the other half. There is also the added benefit of being able to sort the teases in different manners, view the tags of a tease, and see who made the tease and view their profile - something you can't currently do once you enter a tease. Those are all things that browser bookmarks can't bring, and something that other websites that host content have realized.

While the teases you rated five stars are nice, favorites can be used for more than just teases you've gone through. There is the fact that not everybody gives five stars to their favorite teases, as we all don't share the same rating criteria. Personally though, I'd like to "flag" or "bookmark" teases rather than "favorite" them. Some teases I like so much that I want to go back and go again. Many more teases I want to flag so I can come back sometime and do them when I have more time or am in the mood.

It really wouldn't be that hard to implement, either. Add a new table with two fields, one for the user id and one for the tease id. Add a button or a link next to a tease when you're browsing them to interact with the table, simply to simple add (favorite) or remove (unfavorite) records. Done.

And if you've read all this, thanks, lol... You must be very patient.

I knew I'd found a special community in milovana. :-)

I'll add my vote for internal favorites - I agree wholeheartedly with Evals. I sucumb to checking the latest teases while I'm at work, not to view them there, but instead to tease myself for what I can enjoy when I get home that night. Sometimes I wish I could just say "screw it" and leave early :-) While those teases are easy to find, occasionally I'll be going through some randomly and I'll find some that I just don't find again when I'm able to view them.

If the time was taken to make a list of flagged teases as Evals suggested, could there also be a table of Viewed teases, and a page to go to that would show all teases that I haven't viewed? I'd like that.

I would like thank Seraphox for a clear and reasoned explanation and your reasoning is justified and I fully understand your perspective.

My strong tone was intended not to offend the die hard faithful, but intended to get answers to something that appeared to be just being brushed aside, example: the default response being “Just bookmark them.” Also, as Evals mentions “there was some discussion already on saving teases but it didn't get too much attention

If the manner in which I raised this demand/desire/suggestion (substitute whatever you find least offensive) and the subsequent discussion which ensued, has served only to raise awareness of a feature that everyone commenting agrees would be a good feature to have, and to have perhaps moved it slightly up the teams extensive to-do-list, then I have achieved that which was intended. :-D

All

I am surprised this has created such heated debate and some people appear to have upset others by their tone.

Seraphox
I would never question your priorities on working on this site.

What I would say is that some of the nature of this site does not conform with most people's vanilla life style and therefore they have to be careful about accesing this site. The thought of book marking teases is literally impossible for me and probably for a lot of people in this community.

Could I press on you not to dismiss this idea but perhaps to put it on the schedule of works but as a lower priority.

Thanks for all your hard work on this site, it is truly awesome.

JD wrote:I second this motion. This website NEEDS a Save as Favourite function for each of it members ID's allowing members quick and easy access to teases they enjoy. Take a lesson from Youtube.

This is not a request it is a demand. Simply dimissing it and telling members to bookmark it on their explorer page is merely a stalling tactic for what is an innevitable requirement. I do not want a favourites list on my explorer the length of my arm. Nor is it practical from a safety aspect, as children can access favourites on shared computers, and if your mates want to use your pc you have to delete all your favourites from your explorer.

This is absoloutley, unequivocally a must have feature for this site. Instead of wasting time on "secret projects", which save for the initial play around with it month, users have not taken to, priority should be given to implementing useful functions such as a Save as Favourite feature. It will improve the quality of browsing experience, and satisfy your customer requests.
well i dont post much here or anywhere for that matter i just dont get on here as much as id like to but i think coming from someone with 5 post what right do you have to "demand" anything from these people. the ones who work hard everyday on things that you probably couldnt understand to keep this site up and running, and the best site of its nature.I know i dont have too much room to talk but i dont come in after 5 post and demand things from people i dont know! some people just dont know their limitations!!

Of course! Quite a few people have now spoken out in favor of the feature, so naturally it moved up quite a bit in my list of priorities. :-)

On the note of tagging (sort of off-topic in this thread I guess), is there a reason why only the first five tags are shown? There's definitely cases where teases contain a certain tag, because they show up in the list for that tag, but the tag isn't listed.

Mhh, technically it shows the first most frequently used tags. Originally the system was intended so that everybody could tag teases, but eventually we restricted it to the author of the tease and the Team. So now it's indeed a little dumb. Hmm. Of course the limit exists because there is limited space and we don't want a hundred tags to show up for each tease.

Right now there's so much I'd like to change if I had the time. :look:

Please don't hesitate to post suggestions - the day will come when I'll sit down and start work on a major site upgrade.

As far as space is concerned, I'm more amazed at Milovana's storage capacity when it comes to the pictures. There are so many of them!

I know that feeling too well. :hmm: Have you guys considered recruiting an extra web designer? There are programs to coordinate editing files on the server so that all the administrators always have the up-to-date versions on their local drive. I imagine your concern would be though, more about trust and the like, though.

Currently we've got about 2 GB worth of images, so storing is no big deal. But sending 370000 pictures (about 7GB) out daily for you guys to look at is challenging. :fun:

But to clarify my earlier statement, by space I meant the screen space where the tags are shown in the list of teases.
Evals wrote:I know that feeling too well. :hmm: Have you guys considered recruiting an extra web designer?
We've had a few volunteers here and there, but motivation was never very lasting. It takes a month or two to get really comfortable in a codebase as large as ours and usually people give up much earlier.

This is called a version control system and yes, we have one in place. :-)
Evals wrote:I imagine your concern would be though, more about trust and the like, though.
Good point. But if there was somebody genuinely qualified and motivated, it would be worth the risk.

Can we have a 'Interests" group of teases where the reader is locked throughout? Kind of a refined "chastity" Interest choice?
