To be frank, I don't really want to ride edges. I just want to edge and then rest and then edge again. The rests get shorter as you go, so its harder to recover from each edge.

How about some kind of edge mode? The pace increases until you can't take it anymore and press edge. There is a break (maybe the break gets shorter each time you edge?). Then the stroking begins again ...
