From my experience, it's only really painful the first time you do it.

And I don't really know how they do it to your balls - they really yank that stuff off fast when they do the waxing so anything that is hanging would really get pulled. :\'-(

I suspect the pain would very quickly overwhelm any concerns that you had about the embarassment!
