I don't use adblock.
I read a convincing argument for why. Lots of sites get paid by advertisers by the view. These counters detect adblock and don't pay the website. The people who use adblock are generally net savvy, and frequent better sites. The use of adblock therefore trends the web towards stupidity.
I realize this doesn't apply specifically here because it's a one month flat rate, but as I understand it that's rare in web advertising.
So yeah, I don't like ads. I don't like them in webteases. I especially hate bangbros (some of their sites, in my view, are endorsing rape). But I also want to reward the sites I like with money, and putting up with ads is a reasonably painless way to do that.
I also object to the op's threat to stop writing webteases. The owners of this site are incredibly responsive to feedback. The grown-up way to deal with this is to have a conversation, not throw around threats.
Ads on the right during webteases are bad
Re: Ads on the right during webteases are bad
As I said earlier, I'm fine with the ads almost everywhere on the site, just not during the viewing of webteases. This is just my personal preference, that my creations and those of others be given theseraph0x wrote: The ads are a one-time, fixed-price run of one month. After that we'll see what we learned and I'll definitely take your feedback on board. Right now we needed the cash to pay our accounting bills, but next time around we'll negotiate harder and if we can't get a good deal, the ads will be gone.
I've been thinking about other solutions - I could see a feature that anybody who's authored a tease with a rating > 3 gets the ability to turn off the ads. We've also talked before about a sponsorship feature where you can pay something like 5$/year and get a [sponsor] tag to show you support the site. Obviously that would also come with complete ad-freedom.
...
In conclusion: For the next month the ads are paid for, so we can't turn them off on webtease pages or make an exception for authors. After that though - if we keep them at all, we'll make sure that we offer ways to get rid of them for anyone who's bothered by them.
I'm also absolutely open for suggestions if you have ideas for other less intrusive ways to raise money.
environment for which they were written, which didn't (until just now) have these pictures on the right of the screen.
I don't think a solution that just gets rid of the ads for tease authors is a good one; as an author I'd like all viewers of my tease, even novices, to get the full experience.
To campico, I am not an op on this site. Just an author. I hear what you're saying about threats, but honestly, I feel that the webteases I've written have taken a lot of time, and if they aren't going to be able to be viewed except with these ads next to them, I just don't want to be a part of it. I know that sounds temperamental, but that's how I feel. I do appreciate that the admins are responsive to suggestions, but they also need to know how the artists who create the webteases feel in a clear way.
Re: Ads on the right during webteases are bad
Point well taken. Unfortunately the tease reading traffic represents about 80% of our total.cactusman wrote:As I said earlier, I'm fine with the ads almost everywhere on the site, just not during the viewing of webteases. Until we can make money some other way, we simply have to use that traffic for advertising. We're talking about a period of maybe until May 2010 or so. By then our first premium project should launch and we should be able to get rid of the site-wide ads for good. I can't promise anything, so many things can happen, but if we have a revenue stream from subscribers then Milovana won't need to advertise to cover costs anymore.

I guess I just don't see the problem.
If it helps seraph0x keep this site free, I'm all for it.
I don't think it distracts readers all that much. If it does, then they weren't paying very close attention to the tease in the first place.
Just my 2 cents.

Thanks, I'm glad this is understood, and I certainly appreciate what you are doing with this site.seraph0x wrote:Point well taken. Having ads is not a bad thing per se, however the current ads do have their issues:seraph0x wrote:The ads are a one-time, fixed-price run of one month. 1. most of them are non-static, rotating through 2-3 picture groups per banner; this can be highly distracting
2. as has been said, not everybody cares much for seeing men or cocks up close in porn
3. the ads seems rather off topic to this site at large
ad. 1: ads should be static, this is a must.
ad. 2&3: to appeal to the majority of the site users, it is best to have softcore or solo sex ads

I was thinking that (i unadblocked the site and can see them now).
Surely some femdom/bdsm ads would get more clicks from the people who view the site.
Plus if Im going to be distracted by ads during a tease, I would prefer to see something along these lines, it wouldnt kill the mood so much.
