Using English for webteases

Post by SubRick72 »

I notice a steady increase in teases written in Chinese.
Beside English, it is the only other language used, and although I acknowledge the fact many others do not comprehend the English language, I'd like to suggest to publish the teases in English only.

I agree with you. The teases look very interesting though and I'd like to play them, but browser translation doesn't work properly on eos teases.
I'd assume the creators of those teases have english not as their mother tongue, but when creating the teases I'd love to see them having a language option. Other teases are offering two languages as well like German and English.
I know it's more effort the creator needs to put in, but the majority of this community is speaking English.

Yeah its getting a bit out of hand. It didn't matter much, when it was the occasional tease, but if the first pages is filled mostly with Chinese teases it starts to be a problem. This either needs language tagging and separate categories or teases should at least have an English translation. With AI support that should be easy enough to do nowadays, though without any oversight generic AI probably does badly on teases.

I remember seeing dozens of cringeworthy German teases as well.

I agree, make it English only, but this issue isn't anything new. The thing is that there is one persistent Chinese guy posting a lot of teases, and since this site is dead, it appears like it's much, when in fact it's almost the only new kind of content. This site is dying.

Well, there are still people occasionally making new teases. But new content needs new authors and for that the site needs new users. It is already quite hard to become a new user of this site. You need an invite, you have to figure out you have to got to Reddit and ask for one. Personally, I don't believe this was a good idea any more. There should be a way on the site to request membership at least. It was done this way due to spam, but really, we still have spam but less new users. Maybe just place one of the large captcha services in front of the signup and that's it. That's basically all that is done now via the Reddit signup process.

The other issue is, the site has to be attractive. There is a lot of attractive content and there is a huge kinky community out there that would probably enjoy it. But if you come here and the first few pages are full of spam and stuff you can't read, you might just move on.

There isn't really anything else like this on the internet. There are countless of sites for stories, tons of porn games, jerk of instruction videos etc. but the kind of first person interactive stories/games of milovana doesn't exist anywhere else.

While I am unfortunately mono-lingual, I am impressed with those able and comfortable in more than their native tongue, but can't fault those that aren't. I don't see a problem with people posting teases in other than English. Yeah, it limits playability for some but if you can't deal with the language they're easy enough to skip and go for the literally thousands of other teases. Non-English teases are likely to not get the attention and scores of English teases but I assume that's not important to those posting them.

Milovana seems one of the few places online where everyone seems welcome and accepting. (except for those damn spammers!!) I sure don't want to scare away or inhibit anyone from making the huge effort to create and post new material - even if not to everyone's ideal. Heck, there's plenty of English language teases that don't do it for me (and plenty of English as 1st language that write English much worse than those that had to learn it as 2nd or more) No tease can be all things to all people. But of course, anyone can try and write the perfect tease for themself.
Some of these Chinese language teases are actually pretty good. And of course many of the German and others too.

I use Firefox with "TWP - Translate Web Pages" https://github.com/FilipePS/Traduzir-paginas-web addon.(I'm sure there's others too and I think the most recent Firefox update has it built in) I have it set to automatically translate any webpage not in English. It does quite well. Been using it for years. You can also 'un-translate' if you want the original. If just a few phrases in a page aren't English you can highlight them and translate just them. I think https://www.deepl.com/en/translator does a better job generally of translating but I don't have a way to use it as an addon.

Some terms in Chinese teases translate a bit odd - 'edging' is usually something like 'stopping' or 'inch stop' or 'cunzhi' but usually I can get the gist. Buttons don't tend to get translated, but again, can usually surmise their meaning or individually look them up. Using the TWP add on makes playing any foreign language tease possible without hardly taking anything away.

If it really bugs you enough, and you are interested enough in a tease you can always download the tease and reupload it as your own private version where you can go through and translate each page using a better translator like deepl. Just don't republish without the original author's OK. Or contact the authors and offer to help translate.

I don't think non-English teases should be banned, but it would be nice if there were a way to filter or a default language that could be set and remembered via anonymous cookie or tied to the account. I think both a new feature and new rule are unlikely to happen, however.

I don't think removing content would help.

If we want the first page of new tease to be in English then people should make more teases. I will admit I am not pulling my weight. It does not feel like it has been over 2 years.

I do think that the search is a bit lacking. But I do not expect there will be any updates soon. I just stay happy that the site is still up. There is a really good back catalog of teases that could help pull in new members if they where more findable.

Given the amount of spam posts lowing the requirements for making an account feels like a bad move right now.

Even tightening won't help and it's frustrating because how do you scan for people's intention to spam the site with those ads? (I refuse to call them teases)
The only way I can see is dealing with them after they gain access but having the tools to delete their damage on the site.
I've asked the admin again for a tool to delete the "teases"
For now that's all I can do other than try to spot the spam account if they show similar traits.
