No, I'm getting the endpoint-provided metadata. (I can see how it would appear otherwise about me, from my previous posts in this thread, I'm sorry I didn't make it more clear.) It's just that there isn't much metadata available for the porn that I have. F.e., I seek out and download from Empornium a buncha clips by one or another of my favorite goon-dommes, I pump the clips into my stash and let Stash-app scrape and tag them, and what does it tell me? It tells me, maybe, no more than "goon" and "gooning" and "goon-instruction" and an accurate performer name. Gee thanks.

So, for me, the utility of Stash-app is caught in a circular conundrum --

Here is the circle -- 1. I have certain porn preferences and therefore want porn which has a certain set of characteristics; so 2. I seek out porn which has that certain set of characteristics; then, 3. I download and keep that porn, as based on its possession of those characteristics; finally, 4. Stash-app looks at my porn, and it successfully tells me that my porn possesses those characteristics; thereby, I learn from 4. that 1. is indeed the case. I am left thinking, "Geez, I already KNEW this! That's why I chose that particular porn in the first place!"

As it works out, because I don't download huge chunks of un-examined porn, I don't benefit from Stash-app telling me anything which I don't already know. If I only download that which is gooning material; then the Stash-app would tell me, oh so very helpfully, "hey, this is probably gooning material." Umm ... yeah, no shit Sherlock.

On to the next topic.

... at least I get the concept of what you're pointing toward. I have not implemented your new metadata provider, nor have I implemented the secondary one you mentioned, metadataapi.net. I'm not sure how either of those would alleviate my circularity problem (as described above) but it's silly for me not to experiment, so, I'll give it a try when I get a chance. Could you please provide (again?) a clear step-by-step? I find the complexities prohibitive. I could probably figure it out myself, if I were required to do so, but I don't want to be required to do so. I am intelligent and capable, but annoyed and probably also lazy.

I hope people reading this will get a sense of the complexity involved in setting this up. Although the app itself, Stash-app, is a rather sensible thing, it's very programmer-y; and the set-up has a set of rather high initial learning hurdles. There's several downloads, and a pair of memberships, required, and you have to write some simple code to implement ANY metadata provider (you'd think it would at least START with one pre-loaded? because without one, it's doing literally nothing!), and then you have to master an understanding of the tagging and labeling procedure(s) that are sometimes counter-intuitive. Prior to learning about Stash-app, most of the metadata management which I've been familiar with was more user-friendly, IMO. I recall Media Monkey being one management gadget, free to download, not difficult to understand, with auto-tagging from any of a number of metadata providers (though none based on any porn-oriented assumptions). I had hoped Stash-app would be similarly intuitive, but it's definitely not. It has a level of complexity for the end-user that suggests to me that it's probably designed for something bigger and more complex than merely tagging media with metadata; but I can't figure out whether it actually has any function OTHER than tagging media with metadata; in which case, why the unnecessary complexity, if that's all you're going to do with it?

These are all valid criticisms of the UI/UX and I even agree with many of them. I just found that for me, stash is useful enough already in this pre-mature state to tolerate some of the UI/UX jankiness. For anyone interested in seeing some of the future direction of the design, you should check out this GitHub issue: [EPIC] [RFC] Front-end user interface discussion #108
But please keep in mind that it's still just one main developer with no commercial backing.

Regarding the use cases for pmvstash.org specifically, I can totally see how for some people it would be superfluous.
But also, for the people who do use it, each one of us likely uses it a bit differently. Time will tell what the main use-cases end up being.

For now, the admin team asked me to extend a BIG THANK YOU to all the Milovana lurkers who already joined PMV Stash. We now have over 200 users just from Milovana and a large portion of you have been submitting edits! It's also a good reminder of how high the lurker to poster ratio is on Milovana. But of course anybody who looks at torrent file download numbers should already suspect that!

You do have some useful points that it's not a product you can just install, click one button, and have everything automagically complete. But you're making an exaggeration; there's just a single download (though it does download ffmpeg libs in the background if your system is missing them, but nothing user needs to do about it), only memberships "needed" would be stashdb or pmvstash if you want to use their metadata source, and there's absolutely no code involved with adding a metadata provider, just provide the API key and URL you got from stashdb or pmvstash.

And how else is it to get its data? Machine learning isn't that smart yet, and providing full anonymous access to stashdb would harm the community -- risk that copyright owners send frivolous takedown requests, but also that it's crowdsource; the majority of commercial releases are already submitted by users there, but otherwise users can contribute, add tags, send in video hashes so people with for example reencoded files can match automatically, etc.

There's also some other nice features, like having hover previews of video, timeline showing how it progresses, etc, basically like any tube site. But you admit yourself that you're probably not a part of the target demographic, because you're already happy with your current methods of sorting and finding content... so I don't really understand what point you are trying to make? Would you also explain to people that Plex for example it isn't a useful product, because you only watch a handful of movies all with the same genre and such?

Got it installed and pmvstash hooked up as a metadata provider and it works great! It's a fun new way to browse the various videos I've downloaded. I love the ability to find videos by tags and performers.

I'm in the same boat. There are currently only a small fraction of the CH videos on there, but more are definitely being added. It's incredibly useful for me, as some of my collection is from my Limewire days. If you used that back in the day, you already know why that's relevant.

You do have this in ScriptPlayer, along with preview of funscript and it works even if you not playing them in ScriptPlayer, just using it for estim while it is played in another connected player or VR.

The idea of a scraper like this is that you use it when you don't already have the metadata. It uses just the filename to search through milovana posts, find a release thread, and then populate stash metadata (title, date, studio, cover) from the Milovana release thread. I rely on it a lot and it's a must have for organizing Cock Hero movies in stash.

It uses just the filename to search through milovana posts, find a release thread, and then populate stash metadata (title, date, studio, cover) from the Milovana release thread. I rely on it a lot and it's a must have for organizing Cock Hero movies in stash.

Any series has its own folder with videos in the series being numbered. So I have a lot of videos that are just e.g. "01.mp4". As long as it still allows search though, it should still be useful.

Yeah you can customize the search keywords every time very easily. So as long as you know the title it should work very well.

Your "incorrect" assumption wasn't offensive in any sense, so I'm asking here again (third time's the charm?). I'm asking for a step-by-step installation guide. What steps must I take to join services and then implement them such that stash-app uses your PMV-scraper? (For other users here at Milovana, you might also initially include how to get stash-app up and running on their computer in the first place, and how to join and implement the other scrapers.) I probably previously knew how (viz. the fact that I got the standard scraper to operate properly) but now I'm so frickin' annoyed at the complications that I am not going to go look it up again. I'm smart enough to know that my mental capacity for intelligent problem solving is not the problem; though my lack of mental capacity for tedium and unnecessary annoyance may be ...
