As many users of TAI and TAJ are aware, this presents an issue as TAI and TAJ both rely on using tumblr urls to download images from blogs. On December 17th, ALL of your url files will become useless and those images will NO LONGER BE ACCESSIBLE.
Any images that you want to save from tumblr, you need to backup and store locally on your computer so you can still have those images after December 17th. There are multiple ways to do this. However, I've written some code built in to the latest version of Mischevious, my personality for TAJ, that will do this easily for you.
You can find the download to Mischevious in my signature.
For now, use this experimental version of TAJ. We will push this to a release soon.
Backing Up Images
To back up your images, first make sure you have Mischevious running on TAJ.
Then, type one of the 2 commands in chat:
Code: Select all
downloadallurls
or
downloadurl filename
downloadurl will download all the images from a specific url file. For example, if you had a url file called: "urlfilename123.tumblr.com.txt" you could do the following command:
downloadurl filename123
or
downloadurl urlfilename123
or
downloadurl urlfilename123.tumblr.com.txt
When you run one of these commands, the images will be saved to individual folders in <TAJBasePath>/Images based on the name of the urlfilename.
The important part here for all users is to back up any files you want to keep.
Backing Up Images from TAI
You can use the exact same way to convert images as above for url files from TAI except for one small difference.
For the url files you want to convert, open up the txt file and on the first line, put the url to the blog, and on the second line, put "false". After doing this, you can convert TAI url files exactly the same as TAJ url files.
Tumblr Alternatives Help
So, now that tumblr will basically be useless for TAI and TAJ, I need the community's help to find other sites that TAJ (I can't speak for what TAI will do) can use. The site needs to have some type of user profile or feed or blog or library or to put it simply, it need to have a way to access many images from one url. The site ideally needs to also be general. For example, there wouldn't be enough developer time to be able to implement a different way to download images from 20 or 30 different individual blogs that are specific. However, if you have a platform like tumblr, or twitter or something that shares an api or means to retrieve these images across many different pages, this is perfect. We will take all suggestions, and likely, we will probably use more than one site that images can now come from instead of just 1 (tumblr).
Finally
This decision by tumblr is an inconvenience for TAJ. However, we (the developers) will make sure that TAJ is just as good after this if not better than it was before. With your help, we should be able to help make this software even better as a result of this poor decision by tumblr.
