@Handcuffed : some banks will ask for it (when someone stole your card number), and also it is usually in the process of password recovery. Anyway, everything that will be used by marketters (and others) in order to improve identification should be avoided (if you want privacy).

I could find some false anonymous proxy server (!), and anyway most of them will not accept HTTPS (lesser of 2 evils ?)
I am pretty sure most requests for date of birth are to ensure you are over
13, or 18, or other statute age limit.
They only want an answer not proof in almost all cases.

Given the retarded data archiving directive put forward by the EU over the last few years, in good company with Swedens IPRED law, using a proxy (or VPN) is soon to be considered a necessity I'm afraid. Although I have nothing to hide and probably never will, I'd MUCH rather risk giving proxy server hosts access to tap my traffic, than letting authorities map everything I do as they please. No thanks.

https://www.torproject.org/ would be an alternative. Otherwise, there are more than enough anonymus proxy servers.
The problem I see is that most are only available for like 20 hours and than shutdown or change IP.
