It can be a bit strange, especially if you start associating the clip with a certain beat pattern/song/etc. But if the editing is good and the beat works well with the scene I don't think there's much of a problem

Thanks for your input. I just found a way to get Cyberlink PowerDirector 11, so that's a definite upgrade from Windows Movie Maker. I still would prefer Adobe Premiere Pro but hopefully this should be enough for me to continue.
