I think you should google arount a bit, and make mplayer play your files. Then I'm sure it will work.
Thats my best help for now.

I have this Windows Version testet but gifs don't work and videos are not show only the audio is there. Ah.. by flashing, I ment displaying. Nothing wrong.

Also deleted the properities file, and set up paths from scratch.
Removed all url pics, so url folder is empty.

The second format is the correct format. The first format was how the tagging originally worked when it was only part of Mischevious. However, I actually removed the image tagging from Mischevious and added it to TAJ itself using the second format. The reason I switched formats is because the ...

Now that I know more how it should work, I'll do some more testing myself first.

The imgetags files from the downloaed images is in this format:

all of your files need to be upper case. I changed this in the last update. All folder names must now start with a capital letter on mac.

picturesmode now works better. I can browse through a more pictures now. But all are loaded from url folder.
Using debug-mode I see that .gif is not showing.
Moving a loved pic works.
Hated files seems to be deleted.
Tagging also seems to work ...

Also, if I'm correct about what the issues is, it would make sense that showTaggedImage wouldn't work also and that should also be fixed from the above release.
